Cross realm raiding

Can we talk about how dog cross realm raiding is? How it prevents community growth on a server level? Who else is for/against this and why?

while I agree it’s had an impact on server community, server community is basically no longer a thing because of a lot of reasons.

mainly, the insane number of extremely low pop servers. without cross realm grouping, those players would be at a significant disadvantage as far as playing the parts of the game that require groups goes.

everyone on illidan or stormrage would be just fine without cross realm groups.

players on the tiny servers? they’d basically not have a game to play.

Server community is a HUGE deal on my server and your reputation matters. The guild you are in matters… I’d like to look into the numbers of actually low pop servers vs servers that are considered popular enough to function normally

Are you talking retail or classic?

if retail, what server do you play on?

Cross-server raiding has kept many low-pop servers from becoming completely empty as players quit or migrate to higher pop servers.

It is pretty much a necessity for the games continued survival at this point…much like the eventual faction merger

Anyone on a small server or a really weird schedule has to love it. I don’t blame them, the variety of times and skilled players aren’t there on those servers.

I disagree it’s responsible for preventing community growth, when you cross-realm raid you run into issues with trading. You can’t trade personal food, potions, BOEs or gold. If any of these matter (not usually with pugs) you then realize it’s better to play with those on your own server.

Granted, it expanded the pug world which can be a definite drawback on server community, but overall I think it’s done more good than harm. High pop servers don’t need more players to transfer over and no one really wants to pay to leave a low pop server to go to a medium to make it bigger.

Regardless of your opinion on this the fact of the matter is… classic and classic tbc were supposed to only have minimal quality of life changes… and this changes the rules of the game entirely in my opinion.

I like it but if I could make my listings be for my server only I’d prefer it.

Wait…is this thread about Classic/TBC?

Probably get more relevant answers if you move this to the Classic forums.

oh, so this is about classic specifically

you’ll likely get more classic targeted responses here:

cross realm makes a lot more sense for retail, where the majority of servers are tiny shadows of what they used to be.
