Cross-Realm Guilds Coming to War Within - The 1000 Character Limit Must Go

With the announcement now that cross-realm guilds will be possible in War Within, can we PLEASE see a softening of the hard limit of 1000 characters in a guild?

My guild is currently almost at cap and they plan to prune inactive members, but some of those members might come back for the next xpac, so the thought of them coming back to not being in the guild sucks.

1000 Is just outdated at this point, and the restriction, if anything, should be account based, not character based.

1000 people?

Aint no way you need 1,000 plus people in a guild. That’s like…how do you even know all of these folks?

The only mass guilds I’ve been in frequently are those spam invite guilds and they spew some of the most racist stuff in there because no one takes the guild seriously.

I guess for something like Ruin? (I think that’s their name) they’re so multi-realm guild, but that’s like the only multi realm guild I know of.

Usually well established gaming groups going back decades (pre wow sometimes)

And the occasional trade chat guild

But do you know all of those folks? Seems more like a big clan as opposed to a “guild”.

before it fell apart i use to be in a huge guild. wait im on my old druid im still in that guild its just pretty much dead now but back in bfa the guild had 2-3 raid teams and easily 50+ active people at any given time. if we just assume each raid team had 1 of every class that puts the numbers pretty close to 1k. most people bring all their alts into the same guild their mains in

As someone with 1 character, I think its ridiculous to require more space than 1000 members as is

A lot of them are going to be alts. If 100 people have 10 alts in the guild each, which is not that crazy, they’ll hit the cap on that alone.

Oh that’s true!

I’m actually really happy to see a guild cap. You have no idea how good that is. You know how annoying it is to join a guild and it’s basically the entire server? It’s like your collecting people for no reason. The point of a guild is to build a sense of community within the game. We are Not building a city…

No, very unlikely.

One of my alts was in one of those ruin gaming guilds for a short term and it was the worst guild experience I’d ever had.

Chat was 100% silent, there was no interaction and everything was on discord. When they wanted to do world pvp they just invited everyone and ran around outnumbering everything. Possibly the worst way to play WOW and the high ranking players from memory were all infamous for being horrible drama llamas.

I am absolutely flummoxed by this move on Blizzard’s part.

What is even the point of having servers anymore, at this point?

And don’t say that servers have their own distinct communities, because Blizzard just threw that in the trashbin.

Should just move everyone’s characters to Area 52, at this point.

You know all 1000 people in your guild?!

When I was in a monster guild. One that pruned weekly and mass invited more. I knew a few folks. It was split into groups.

It seemed impossible to know everyone.

(I know folks said they have alts which bump the numbers up)

Yes? We’re a very talkative person.

Not all 1000 people are unique. The 1000 cap also counts against alts.

Like I said, it’d be one thing if it was 1000 accounts. But 1000 characters is too small.

The problem isn’t having 1000 people, you currently can’t have 1000 players, because everyone has alts, you could have 100-300 players max, depending on how many alts they bring, IF they made guilds account-wide instead, where you are a battlenet member of that guild, it would free some space.

They can move it to 10,000. But honestly the game is dying and a expansion not what it once was. If WoW suddenly got 12 million subs back it might be worth it to increase guild cap. But the game is barely hanging on.

300 players still sounds massive!

I’m normally in raiding guilds and that’s very tight-knit. But leveling guilds are just chaos! Done a few of those and it was just trade chat in green letters.

I imagine with cross realm they’ll increase the size of guilds though.

The question of whether World of Warcraft’s 1000 character limit in guilds makes sense is subjective and depends on various factors. It is difficult to provide a definitive answer as it ultimately comes down to personal opinions and playstyle preferences. However, let us consider some arguments for each possibility:

  1. Increased Limit:
Advocates for an increased character limit might argue that larger guilds can foster a sense of community and offer more opportunities for socialization, collaboration, and in-game events. A higher limit could accommodate players who enjoy being part of a large group or have a larger network of friends within the game. Additionally, some guilds focus on competitive gameplay, such as PvP or raiding, and having more members can enhance their chances of success.

  2. Decreased Limit:
Those in favor of a decreased character limit might argue that large guilds can become impersonal and chaotic. Smaller guilds can foster closer relationships among members, making it easier to coordinate activities and maintain a sense of camaraderie. Additionally, smaller guilds often have closer-knit communities, where players can have more significant roles and contributions, rather than getting lost in a crowd.

  3. Left Alone:
Maintaining the current character limit could be supported by the belief that it strikes a balance between the advantages and drawbacks. It provides enough space for guilds to accommodate a substantial number of members and fosters a sense of community, while not becoming overwhelming or unmanageable for guild leaders and officers. It keeps guilds large enough to engage in challenging content but also small enough to maintain a sense of unity.

Ultimately, the decision on whether to increase, decrease, or leave the character limit alone in World of Warcraft guilds is in the hands of the game developers. They must carefully evaluate the player base’s preferences, technical limitations, and the impact any changes may have on the game’s overall dynamics.

Thanks ChatGPT, I mean ChatBEAKpt.

There is all sort of community out there that can use this amount. Note that not all those 300 players play at the same time, they could be spread out around the week, but are part of the same general community. It could be a Streamer’s guild, it could be an RP-Event guild, it could be a massive PVP Premade guild.

There’s a reason people are asking for more room, even if it’s only for 30 players to each bring in their 60 alts.
