I’m posting here to voice my extreme frustration about my current predicament. At some point in 2018 I opened my Toy collection to see that I was missing the Alliance versions of the Hearthstation and Toy Weapon Set toys even though I diligently logged into my Horde main and looted the presents under the tree. Normally learning something on one faction teaches you the corresponding item for the opposite faction. Learning the service medal heirlooms for one faction teaches you the corresponding heirlooms for the other faction, because of course no one wants to grind 300 service medals twice.
In 2018 I prayed that opening the presents under the tree would remedy the situation, because surely Blizzard would not design this in such a way that you could end up with one version of an identical toy but not the other. They were not under the tree. This year I find out they have been added to the Stolen Present item, and according to some wowhead comments the alliance versions of the toys can drop on horde characters doing the daily. I’ve done 20 of them now and no luck.
Is the intended design now that I have to grind this daily on my 17 level 120 characters every day of this event to try and get the same toys I already own for the opposite faction? It makes sense to grind them for years you missed. If you didn’t log in at all that year, you have to work to get the toy from that year for your collection. But I DID log in that year, and now I have to work hard to get rewards for a year I did in fact log in and loot presents under the tree. This is ridiculous.
The best christmas present Blizzard can give me would be to fix this and reward anyone with one version of the toy with the other. You should not be able to be in this “half-earned” state, there are too many other instances of pairs of items where learning one teaches you the other across factions.

I 100% agree with you Zarillion…I have done about 150 Stolen Presents on my Alliance characters only this year and no Hearthstation on any of them. I am in the same boat, I have the Horde version but not the Alliance version…

Wat?
I had no idea there were two versions. I only play Alliance characters, who certainly have the hearthstation.
Yep, like Zarillion is saying, but in addition, he is saying that literally 99% of all faction specific mounts and toys give the mount/toy for both factions after earning the mount/toy on the faction you first learned/earned it on.
For instance, when you earn a vicious saddle mount on a Alliance character, even if you do not play Horde, you will also earn the equivalent mount for Horde, on your Alliance character.

It is just sad that this Hearthstation toy has been bugged like this for 2 years now and Blizzard still has not fixed it. I am 99.9% sure you cannot earn the Hearthstation toy on both factions, you can only learn it on the faction you first loot it on.
I even spoke with a GM through a ticket and even the GM said that it can only be handled as a bug report. Like, they can’t do anything about it because it is a bug.

Yep, there are two distinct Hearthstation toys.
Get this: Ours is red.
It’s honestly a little ridiculous, given the only difference between the two is color and name…?
It just clutters up the toy window with needless duplicates. Of toys I probably won’t even use more than once.

Agreed.
What I would like to know is if any new cool toys/whatnot have been added this year? I did super-luck out and get the Flames of Rag transmog, but not sure if that’s new…
I think the most egregious example of clutter has to be the Foot Ball/Pigskin and Foot Ball/Pigskin, which are four toys for some reason, because two were presents and two can be purchased from various toy vendors in major cities. For some reason Blizz actually changed the name of two of 'em in 8.1-ish even though it makes literally no difference at all (one of the Pigskins is now the Swineskin, and the WV Football is “Limited Edition”). Why not just turn two of them into a baseball and dodgeball or something?
