Cross -Faction guild not being in DF launch is a HUGE mistake

Guilds are recruiting people from all walks of life since the cross faction play was initiated. Therefore guilds, like my own have setup Communities to this end. Communities hold almost zero functionality when compared to guild structure, responsiveness of something as simple as chat even, etc. The fact that there seems there wont be cross-faction guilds at launch is just another mistake you’re making and another “bad call” In my own opinion and i’m sure its shared by many.

You REALLY should re-consider this before launch.

Yea when I saw Ion basically rule it out for pretty much the entire expac I was like…seriously? We gotta wait till 11.0???

wait have they said it’s still not a thing?

the insane hoops guild leaders have had to jump through because of the dev’s absolutely inept handling of the cross faction release is awful.

we had hoped it was temporary, but apparently not.

how long are you going to string us along? Do you simply not care? beacuse that’s what it’s looking like.

yes. I am mad.

communities are garbage. complete and total absolute trash.

The set up we have now, because so many people wanted to go back alliance and I didn’t want to tell them they couldn’t do something they really wanted to do in a game they pay to play is:

horde guild - guild chat off
alliance guild - guild chat off
community - chat on
officer community - chat on

this is the stupid jankery we had to do to accomodate people who wanted to raid cross faction, but still be able to communicate and be a guild. and all along I’ve been desperately hoping that it was temporary, and now I’m hearing it’s basically permanent?

I hate this company right now. my guild is almost 15 years old and this legitimately might be the thing that kills it because it absolutely sucks to try to manage with the community stupidity layered over two guilds.

I could maybe believe the tech issues argument, but it seems like it’d be easy to upgrade communities to cover the functionality in the meantime.

There’s got to be a better way!

upgrading communities is such a low hanging fruit, because they are so unbelievably godawful, it’s almost insane that they’ve let them remain in the state they are for so long.

the bar to improve communities is set so low, an entry level intern with some basic UI experience could make them better.

Bruh.

Not having X-Faction Guilds in 9.2.5 is one thing. If it means they can get x-faction out faster, then we can deal with some jank.

But not having x-faction guilds in 10.0 is genuinely ridiculous. Guilds are literally the core social experience and organisational structure of WoW communities. Having x-faction work in that should be priority #1

ok, I found the interview where he talks about it.

what he says is it’s not coming with launch, but they could see them exploring it “over the course of the expansion”

no commitment to doing it? total crap.

not having it before launch is a huge mistake… HUGE mistake… ( ESPECILLAY since it was a “bug” in a previous build that allowed people to cross faction guild. so don’t tell me its not available… or close to it) Communities are absolute trash… and Alot wont want to faction change… so same old crap same old problems.

Maybe there’s a lot of backend stuff to sort out first. They said they’d be taking baby steps towards it so it doesn’t break the game. The thing I’d like to see change immediately is mob tagging. It’s dumb that if I’m one person in an area and an Alliance person is there that we can’t tag the same mob and get credit.

Id believe that, if it wasn’t already in a previous build they called a “bug” it worked then… so you’re not far off from it being good to go. so I can’t buy that back end stuff.

bottom line is if you’re going to commit to cross faction, then COMMIT! stop this one foot in nonsense.

This needs to be talked about more, for sure. Launching 10.0 without cross faction guilds is going to set us up for another expansion of faction-specific Halls of Fame, disjointed player experience from other players, and in terms of Blizzard’s wallet, a disjointed experience between eSports scenes like the MDI and the real game.

Just seems like they don’t want to put in the effort. Then again this is Ion and Co, they rather work on things like Dragon riding, a solution for some kind of problem they believe existed. Oh let’s not forget they feel like an expansion needs to launch with a probably 8 boss raid at minimum. If they would stop being so hyper-focused on Raids and Mythic+, and solving problems they think exist, we might have cross faction guilds, we might have more content for everyone regardless of play style.

If you’re going to commit… COMMIT will be my response yet again…

Wait seriously???

That’s bullcrap.

Tech issues are a valid concern, and that’s why most of us have given them the benefit of the doubt with 9.2.5/upcoming 9.2.7, but a new expansion that’s being treated as a “back to basics” and “rebuilding the foundation” project is 100% the correct time to handle this change.

Cross-faction play has gone over better than I think any of us could have POSSIBLY anticipated. Even the small handful of people who were shouting that they were against it have been pretty silent or positive about the change. I personally haven’t felt like the game has been this full and active since early Legion if not before that.

Cross-faction is good for the game, it’s good for the community, it brings the game into the modern age, and waffling around with not doing cross-faction guilds is one of the biggest mistakes they could make with Dragonflight.

We’re still forgetting it was “enabled” in a ptr build by mistake and labled as a “bug” and it worked fine… the argument becomes moot with that fact.

Here is me hoping that it’s because they’re doing a complete overhaul and rethink on the guild system, which also includes pulling it out of the community ecosystem and fixing granular permissions, among so many countless other things. Here’s also hoping that it’s a large enough task and they don’t want to set a date in case something goes haywire before thy’re set to release it.

I do kind of miss the “it’ll be ready when it’s ready” approach from long ago. If this is in that boat and it turns out to be glorious, I’m okay with it. If it turns out to be even worse than what we have now, well… I don’t even know how it could be.

I fully agree, none of this pick and choose what cross faction will work for and won’t. Cross faction guilds, cross faction open world content, cross faction everything. Yes there are some areas in open world where it won’t work, but those are problems to be sorted out down the road, just make it clear if you and a friend cross faction level there are some instances where it won’t work.
