They could only to a very limited extent and mainly one when the plot demanded it.

But seriously, people have done the translations between common and whatever the Horde language is. Just Google it to see what the different words are.

Or you can invite one to your group and chat with them.

I know back in the day people would dual box and get in a match in Altec Valley with one character on the Alliance side and one character on the Horde side and then pass what the Alliance where planning to do. To the amazement of the Alliance players the Horde continued to stop each advance the Alliance had and never figured out they had a spy among them. This turned what would be a 5-minute match into a 90-minute match with Horde players walking away with 1000ā€™s of kills and more honor than what they would normally get in that kind of match because wait times favored Alliance players and dragging out matchā€™s gave Horde the advantage.

Most issues with stuff like this is people who would be too toxic with it kinda ruin it for everyone.

Canā€™t queue with my friends cross faction, but can end up in a cross faction group with strangers. Lol?

Oh I have no denying that it would be a train wreck. On the other handā€¦ meh. Nothing you can do, if someone wants to be a jerk, they will figure a way to bother someone.

Its not such a big deal now with how PvP is seperated now. They could just have it where side 1 can not communicate with side 2 in a BG.

A better questions would actually be.
Would removing the restriction change anything? People are already being verbally abused by their own faction.

Thus far, the restriction does nothing but restrict another way of playing World of Warcraft - roleplaying.

Just to be a nerd, they couldnā€™t.

Garona learns common/English while being a prisoner. She is then able to translate for the Horde and Alliance during the scene with Anduin and Durotan.

We, as the audience, get to hear them both in English after a few lines of Orcish.

We briefly hear things from Durotanā€™s PoV to establish that neither the humans or orcs can understand each other without a translator.

As for in game communication, I wish we at least shared a trade channel. On my server, Moon Guard, the Horde population is like 1/4th of the Allianceā€™s and it is a pain to find a crafter sometimes, so I have to go to an Alliance alt to spam trade chat to find one for my Horde characters. Just let us talk business in trade chat Blizzard!

Your wish is granted. Been sending anything I want to other faction alts all expac. Potions, crafted stuff, forbidden reach gear tokensā€¦mail away.

Heck, before I got to my tailor, my friend whose main is a horde tailor sent larger reagent bags to a couple of my ally alts when I asked.
