Cross Eyed At Stat Options Please Add Suffix or Stat Change

Very simple very whiny post, but when looking at gearing there is sometimes a bunch of the exact same titled geared with different stat distributions, which I get can be important… but like… can we use a suffix or just let the player select the stats in some way?

GW2, on legendary… items… lol, allows you to select them. On ascended you have to pay though, I’m not really looking to lock down or change an item after purchase though I’d be fine for that- the request is primarily just “t-shirt” “t-shirt” and “t-shirt” is a little annoying to read (first world problem), but the differences are very important… which makes it worse.

So like you have two leather Jerkins, one is of the fox and the other is of the bear, and therefore the stats align with that concept. FFXIV uses this for jobs (striking, aiming, maiming).

One or both of these, would be neat, and I know its very low on the list, but every time I do see a merchant with all those options I’m like OH MY GOD WHY IS THERE SO MANY OF THE SAME ITEM lol. But its not the same item… So something to differentiate them (or meld) would be nice.

Not a request to reduce item build potential, just make it simpler to read (or use, if going the GW2 legendary re-allocate feature).

Thanks for reading my tiny violin post

Most stuff is like that already, though? Feverflare, Peerless, Fireflash, etc.

Hmm. Do you have an example? I may be missing something that’s in front of my face.

I can’t remember the first time I saw it, but the most recent was some PVP gear, and it just surprised me that it was like that.

Or did an addon just screw me over and it was named and the addon removed it? Lol, that’d be some great unintentional shoot myself in the foot stuff.

Wut?

You don’t need to reference GW2. WoW literally used to do this.
https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Item_suffix#Animal_name_suffixes

I still remember “Of the Monkey” being Agility gear, and I generally don’t even play Agility based specs.

Now that primary stats are basically global, they’d just need to extend it to secondary stats instead.

If i find the first reference I’ll update, because it’s the second time its been this way, though what you said sounds great if kept consistent (if like peerless = something specific and consistent), but and I guess its a minor difference but still pretty “blah” to me:

“Prized Aspirant’s Leather Spaulders”
“Prized Aspirant’s Leather Mantle”

Which have the exact same icon and are for the same slot, and same meaning (imo), only one is Haste, and the other is Critical Strike.

So the suffix or prefix of say like Prized Aspirant’s Leather Mantle of the Peerless, would be far more informative. Or Peerless Prized Aspirant’s Leather Mantle. Which now that I say it, prefix is probably more helpful in terms of brain understanding what it is looking at (I want critical strike “oh I read something that isn’t critical strike, next”).

You might say “well Spaulders and Mantle are different” and I’d just go obviously not enough that my brain melted lol.

Though as I said I’m not claiming some end of the world issues here (its my minor hangup), but given the icon is the same, the meaning of the words is the same, and the only difference is a stat… I’d really appreciate some sort of convention. At least in FFXIV and GW2 you tend to have these things and it helps my crayon eating brain :stuck_out_tongue: .

Do this (Blizzard), but more effectively :stuck_out_tongue:

To be honest it could also be a sort of internal tooltip tag (not in the title), but then can be optionally shown in the title. So that way they can tag everything by the appropriate stat distribution type, even if it is a one off item (it has no other ‘options’, but it still has a stat distribution type), and you could choose to show it or not in the title as either a prefix or a suffix.

That idea is also of course a lot more work, because its not just naming then…

I think they are confused by how (mostly pvp) gear will have 2 items to pick from on the vendor with nearly the same name but different secondary stats.

For example:
Prized Gladiator’s Plate Helm - Has vers mastery
Prized Gladiator’s Plate Helmet - Has vers crit

They just want it to be Prized Gladiator’s plate helm of the Harmonious
and Prized Gladiators plate Helm of the Quickblade instead.

There’s an addon called pawn. It shows a percentage of upgrade with a mouse over. It’s a decent guide.

Most gear does have suffixes.

“of the Fireflash for Crit/Haste, of the Peerless for Crit/Mastery, etc.”

PvP gear is the outlier, because PvP gear always has Versatility as a stat. So when you look at different slots for PvP, you’re just looking for a single stat. There’s also, as far as I recall, only 2 options.

Though yea, they could probably label them “Masterful Aspirant’s Leather Spaulders” and such instead of that though.
