I’m well aware that I’m not the first person to put the idea forward of changing armor type restrictions for transmogrification, but I think I’ve come up with an idea that doesn’t break the intended philosophy of sticking to certain aesthetics for certain classes.
People generally have been looking at it as black and white, Either no leeway for armor type restrictions, or removing the restriction entirely, but I think the best answer is somewhere in between.
I got the idea while looking at a lot of the new armor appearances in the collections screen that will be coming in TWW, and envying the armors of classes that were JUST BARELY not the same armor class as mine.
Essentially:
Allow classes to transmog gear that is 1 “armor class” below their own, or, in the case of cloth wearers, 1 armor class above.
So IE,
Plate wearers can transmog some of the many heavily armored mail sets, most notable coming to mind right now are the cool knight-themed mail sets coming in TWWMail wearers can transmog leather armor, which includes some of the many hoods, cowls, shrouds, and other light armor available to that armor class, that fit so well with the mail wearing archetypes
Leather wearers can transmog cloth gear, which gives them access to many of the “plainclothes” outfits available to the cloth classes, INCLUDING ACTUAL PIRATE COSTUMES (pirates fall under the category of “rogue”, a leather class)
and cloth wearers, of course, having access to leather, which carries some great caster robes as well as even more “plainclothes” options like coats that are otherwise unavailable to cloth
