Just like it says, the “base 5% chance to crit” seems not to apply to the computer. It’s been bad over the past couple expansions, but WW is just off the chain. The Tiny Cragling in the “Rock Collector” battle seems to non-stop crit and the computer seems to give itself an extraordinary amount of “screw you” final crits before a pet dies.
We’ve been noticing for years that the pets we battle have RNG lot better than what we have. Part of how Blizzard keeps the battles challenging. Admit it sucks to get hit with a 25% stun over 50% of the time.
Personally my toons have never had any trouble with the Collector Dyna but that’s probably because of team we use, two Pandaria Water Spirits with a fairly strong 3rd pet backup.
Absolutely not true. The computer crits way more than the base 5% and as Chrummie said, stuns go off way more than 25%. In addition, any pet with a hits-you-twice-if-it-goes-first ability and maybe three times almost always get the 3 hit variety.
As someone who does A LOT of battles, I have to agree with Gráinne and that the NPCs don’t get more crits than us, and they certainly don’t always get 3 hits on the 2-3 hit abilities. We can definitely see this isn’t the case now that we have the Pet Sim site, which can runs hundreds to thousands of battles for us.
PetSim isn’t proof of anything, though. The game has one program; PetSim is another. There could be a bug in one that is not in the other. I reported a bug in the sim a while ago, which made several battles’ results very different from what happens in the game. Nightmane quickly fixed that bug, but there could of course be others. And I’m sure the sim sticks to the stated crit chance, even if the game had a bug in it.
So while I have a lot of confidence in the sim, and it is extraordinarily useful, it’s not conclusive.
Pet Battle Log Keeper addon. It retains logs of battles completed so that you can view or dump them for analysis later. There’s a current version on the Discord.
I decided way back in MoP that the Epic and Legendary level pet enemies get bonuses to their various dice rolls. It’s minor for the epic ones, but it was substantial for the legendary ones.
