Crit or Haste for BM?

I’ve been trying to find a solid answer as different sites give different information. Are BM hunters still stacking crit or is there a haste soft cap we should hit before stacking crit? If so, what is the soft cap?

Best answer: Sim your character whenever you get a new piece of gear.

Generally, Haste tends to be the best secondary so far though.

Here’s from Icy Veins:

General Stat Priority

The general stat priority for a Beast Mastery Hunter is:

  1. Haste;
  2. Critical Strike;
  3. Versatility;
  4. Mastery.

Haste and Critical Strike are very close for Beast Mastery Hunters, with Haste usually taking the lead.

Versatility is a decent stat as well.

Mastery is the worst stat for Beast Mastery despite it increasing pet damage, because it does not buff the damage from external sources like trinkets, most Covenant Abilities, and so on.

In a practical situation, your stat weights and priority will always be changing as you get more gear, trinkets and so on. This is a general stat priority that gives you an idea of what stats are good to have on your gear.

The easier way to look at it is in how real gear actually works. Gear always has two stats, so stop trying to get just one.

Haste + Crit is the best combination.

Haste + Versatility is the next best, with Crit + Versatility being roughly equal.

Haste + Mastery is the next, with Crit + Mastery being roughly equal.

Vers + Mastery is the worst by far.

I don’t think there’s any significant softcaps for Haste on BM. AotW makes focus trivial during burst, so landing more hits into Wild Spirits would be most likely the capping criteria, but I think that won’t matter too much unless you reach GCD cap.

The soft cap for haste would be “as much haste as makes barbed shot uptime 100%.” Which is… 28% with bloodletting. Probably around 30% for safety.

Crit % helps with this too, as auto Crits have a chance to refresh a barbed shot. So you’re just looking for a comfortable amount of both until 30% haste becomes easy to get (last raid tier normally).

Bing says that your Critical strike doesn’t get shared with your pet. So, this tells me that for Beast Mastery your stat priority is as follows,

  1. Mastery 2. Versatility 3. Critical Strike 4. Haste

Agility would be between 3-5 since with common sense your attack power doesn’t share with your pet either.

Necroposting on an old thread is generally a bad idea.

That being said, Hunter pets inherit all primary and secondary stats at different ratios, but they don’t always use them in the same way. IE, haste doesn’t reduce the recast time on pet abilities(bite/claw/smack).

Mastery is also our worst stat, because there are too many things in the game that increase damage by X%, which doesn’t apply to pets. We also get a massive amount of Mastery base.

This is wrong.

It’s actually fairly good for us on AoE and atm looking a lot better in DF. And depending on current stats can still be your best stat at a moment :

Common sense would dictate that you simply look at all the online guides and sims and not just make up random facts and ideas of whats best.

Sim yourself. What works as ‘best’ for one person’s toon may not be the best for yours based on different gear setups/quality. All stats can be good for BM. Delete Pawn, don’t worry about ‘the best stats’ and sim sim sim.

Also don’t worry about simming multi target. Always sim ST. That is BM’s strength. Play to that, anything else is gimping your potential dps.
