Crit for Prot?!

So, there is one thing I have noticed this xpac over all others. I have been working to gear my pally yet nearly all gear I get from the vault, quest rewards, or boss drops all contain Crit, the most useless stat for a Prot Pally. I have checked my loot specialization several times, and confirmed it is set for Protection. What is the use of a loot specialization when it has no real bearing on the gear? I would expect by now to have most of my gear be specialized for Protection stats, but I still get tons of crit. I understand there is RNG, but really Blizz, you can do a ton better!

Gear specialization is about getting items that you can equip and are useful for your specialization, for example you won’t get an Int weapon, a 2H weapon or a healing or some DPS only trinkets as Prot.

But the actual stats on gear is not affected by loot specialization because what stats are optimal for each spec is for the players to decide and sometimes can even change based on playstile and/or diminishing returns on them… And sometimes players could also experiment with alternative builds that may prioritize different stats, it’s not something the Devs should constrain that would be terrible.

Also aside from some outliers, for most classes, specially tanks and healers I think, getting a piece of gear that is 5 to 10 item levels higher is almost always better regardless of secondary stats (not consider additional tertiary stats and sockets ofc).

If in your particular case it so happens that all the gear you are getting has crit on it then that’s just unlucky but it’s not the game actually trying to allocate crit gear to you.

You would think that by now I would have received one item from the vault that did not have Crit as a main stat. I think I have moved well past unlucky at this point and see it now as the Devs making it personal.

I agree with the premise…but I also weirdly think they were trying to /wink /nod try to make us try some kind of weird antisynergistic parry build. Like…why on earth does the 4set just give 5% parry. If it was block that would have made more sense even, even if it would still pale compared to other class 4sets.

But yea the premise is sound. If you want to not have crit on gear there’s multiple ways not to this time around.

Edit: In fact you could literally target your preferred stats through pvp items which iirc can be converted without losing their stats

Crit is pretty good due to high parry chance you gain from talent and tier set. I would prefer crit over vers for m+.

The stat items from M+ drops this rotation are garbage. There just very few items that actually align with our stat priority. Not to mention how badly balanced the available trinkets are. This is one of the worst dungeon selections I have seen as far as gear diversity in dungeons, especially for prot paladins. The great vault is also just a garbage idea, covering an issue of RNG with more RNG that is also time gated is beyond stupid.
