Has anyone gotten Crimson Shardhide drop recently? I noticed the mob didn’t have any rare symbols on it when I started but just assumed it got removed since its old.
But after 300 attempts idk anymore. I really just want to know if this mount still even drops.
Have you checked WowHead? It’s a 2% drop.
“If the rare event is up, he will be marked with a rarespawn star on your minimap, so keep an eye out for that. If there is no star, the event cannot be started.” per Wowhead comments
What I’m getting from the above, unless you can start the event that spawns Malbog as a rare, you don’t get the 2% drop rate. They won’t remove the rare marks on something because it’s old.

Yep I did. I’ve been using the method mentioned in the comments there where walking the trail you’d see when you have the quest will get the meat which summons Malbog to spawn.
That has been working to make it spawn but I didn’t think you actually needed the event itself to make the spawn a rare spawn. I can’t pick up the event yet since im not far enough into Shadowlands it seems. I just ran here through the beastwarrens and haven’t gotten to the Korthia intro quests

So after unlocking the Keeper’s Rest portal I was able to accept the event from the caretaker.
But even with his pet following me and the purple tracks showing up, Malbog still did not have any of the Rare mob emblems on its portrait.
Is the mob supposed to spawn rare all the time for the event or is it just a small chance for the rare version to spawn, and then another 2% chance for the mount to drop from the rare?
From the comments, I’m gathering he spawns rare from the event and that gets you the 2% drop rate but I don’t know for sure.
Do you have any add-ons that could be filtering out this mob, such as rare scanner or silver dragon? Blizzard definitely wouldn’t deliberately remove the status of a rare.
It’s a low drop chance though so it can definitely take a looong time to get. it’s a daily lockout, like most rares. You mentioned doing 300+ kills, but those weren’t farming with the same character on the same day were they?
I have Rarity and Handynotes but not seeing any settings for them that’d affect it. No change when disabling them either.
Yah these attempts have all been on the same char. I saw the lockout mentioned but assumed if I was locked out I’d see a notification preventing me from spawning the mob or accepting the event. Like when you reset a dungeon too many times.
I’ll check again after the reset to see if there a difference.
Myself, it took over 50 tries to get the mount. I still don’t have the escaped wilderling or garnet razorwing after downing both more than 100 times each.
I see the quest fairly often at the main hub in Korthia. Also to remember is that if you don’t have the quest and small shardhide escort, you will not be able to interact with the bones that summon it.
What I often see is Malbog is getting dropped in mere seconds, so unless you camp the area, you can’t get a tag. Not sure of the respawn timer for the quest giver, but it seems longer than 1 hour.
You can do the rare on the same character, just once per day. If you want the most chances per day you will need to kill him on a different character each time.
There is no lockout from physically killing the mob or spawning it, but you won’t be eligible for the mount to drop.

Understood, after the reset I started the event and Malbog spawned with the rare symbol.
Waiting a few minutes and spawning it again showed no rare symbol.
