Crest Farming is ridiculous *Must Read*

The amount of crest farming you have to do for alts right now is utterly insane and painful. To max out Gilded Crests at 720, you need 45 level 10 keys at 16 crests per run. Let’s be generous and assume you can consistently find groups and complete keys in around 30 minutes each, from start to finish. That’s 45 keys × 30 minutes = 22.5 hours — and that’s a very conservative estimate.

Realistically, very few people can grind that out in a short time, meaning it could take weeks or even months to get an alt geared up. I’m sorry, but there is no rational argument that justifies this kind of massive time commitment just to catch up an alt.

I truly believe if you have one character that has maxed out crests, it should either:
• drastically increase the amount of crests you earn on your alts, or
• drastically reduce the cost of upgrades for alts.

This needs to change — and it needs to change fast.

And don’t forget: you can also craft 5 items at 60 Gilded Crests each. That just piles on even more.

Catching up alts should be tied to your main’s progress. If you’ve already put in the work to max out a main, that effort should meaningfully cut down the grind for your alts. Right now, it’s just pure burnout, and it makes the game way less fun.

I think this is a very important topic that needs to be addressed immediately. As the season starts to become stale and less fun, or when you run out of things to do because you’ve finished upgrades on your main, alts are often the answer. I realize I run into this issue every season — I’m fine running a few dungeons here and there on my alt, but not at the insane volume currently required to fully gear one. Come on blizzard…

I honestly don’t see any real argument against drastically cutting alt gearing time once you’ve invested in a main. If you agree or disagree, let me know — and tell me why.

That really isn’t that many :person_shrugging:

AND if you loot higher ilvl/only spend crests and valorstones on higher ilvl pieces, you’ll need less.

I never run into lack of crests with my alts, it’s always the valorstones. I have crests I can’t spend because weapons for example require so many valorstones I fall behind in them. I wish valorstones were transferable.

I mean, that’s pretty good if you’re going from no gear to fully geared in less than a day.

You could do that over a couple of days and get fully upgraded.

Oh shucks, im maxed out 6 weeks into season. Whatever shall i do with the other 14-18 weeks…

22.5 hours in 6 months.
I commute more to work in a couple weeks

There’s also so much they could do to improve the current system. For example, maxing out your Vault slots on a main should reduce the number of runs needed on your alts.

Let’s say you fully clear both Mythic+ and raiding slots on your main (8/8 for both). Then, on your first alt, the requirement should drop to 4/4 runs for full Vault rewards. For every subsequent alt, it could drop even further to 2/2 runs.

Why not make it a reasonable time commitment? It would reward the time investment players have already made, and I genuinely believe it would actually increase overall playtime by keeping players more engaged instead of burning them out.

They will be next month. They just released an update saying for the rest of the season they’ll be unlocking flightstones.

I have items that cant be upgraded because it requires me to drop down to 6s while farming 10-12s (ill just wait for the proper piece to drop in the proper track)

BS. My alts are up into the mid 640s just doing world quests and delves even before I know it. Gearing alts has never been easier.

Been saying this for years now. Crest amount at the end of keys should be even higher.

It is an alt – they are not your main. Why are you trying to max the gear of your alt?
It is all on you that you want to try to keep your alt(s) at the same level as your main.

dont forget the 31 gilded a week you can get from delves

I’m just curious. At this point 193 guilds have completed the Raid. How did they manage?

I actually have that same issue lol. I am stuck at items that need crests below content I do, and don’t want to waste runed crest to downgrade to carved or gilded down to runed lol

Didn’t read.

In no normal world is an alt the same power as a main.

So, I’m fine with the grind. Very doable on your main.

Got a lot of crests below Runed piling up Gonna be doing tradeups like crazy when the cap is removed.

My vote is they just kill the upgrade system all together.

Why grind a hundred keys to end up at the same 13 item level gaps between difficulties we’ve had since Wrath (15 in a few expansions)?

I think the obvious answer is that it will add a bit more potential power gain for those that are still struggling to complete content.

Essentially, it’s the opposite of the normal late season nerfs we saw in the past…but with the same effect

They still do late season (whole season nerfs).

The raid has a stacking damage buff.

It mainly seems to be there to “slow” progression in the face of an infinite loot source.

True. waiting for a TL;DR…
