Crest caps

Could someone explain the reason behind the seasonal crest caps? As things stand now I’m down to needing only hero crests, but because I can only get 100 new H-crests each week, it’s going to take me another 10-ish weeks to fully upgrade my gear. In the meantime, I do content that’s constantly awarding me H-crests which instantly get converted to V-crests which I have no use for.

What am I missing? Or is this working as intended?

Casual players complained for years that players who had more time to commit to the game would turbo grind the beginnings of expansions and patches and get far ahead of them; meaning they’d get better gear/more power sooner and then walk all over them or (in their eyes) gatekeep them out of content. The complaining eventually got loud enough that Blizzard started introducing timegating to narrow that gap and prevent degenerate gamers from beating the season in week 2, and keep all players within a certain range of power level.

Its even worse for Delves. For some reason there is a cap on Key fragments as well. There should be zero caps on the keys since both Bountiful is capped (only 4 a day) AND crests are capped.
Thats 3 layers of caps for Delves.

Caps is for mythic raid progression, so people dont max out gear and face roll mythic

You answered your own question. Since wow has no hope in hell of attracting new players they focus on player retention and deeper $$$ extraction of the dwindling player base. This .5 patch is just slop.

Are you just not interacting with the crafting system whatsoever?

ironically, a lot of people did actually beat the season in week 2, which is why they pulled a new 3400 achievement out of their hats.

Working as intended.

The caps let the crests drop from pretty much any source in the game. You can get them from everywhere.

But if it were not for the caps, folks would yolo them, “doing all the content”, in a week or two.

Then you’d have folks whining “I have a life, I can’t yolo with the bed pan crowd and now I’m always behind and can’t get groups/get ganked/get laughed at in chat etc.”.

So, the solution to let them drop from everywhere, but limit them, so folks “do what they want”, “play what they enjoy” and still fully participate in the crest and upgrade system.

Sure. Because most of the content is just copy/paste recycled slop, they need to artifically slow you down to stretch out engagement.

they also need to lower the cost to upgrade gear from 20 to 10

It wasn’t casuals that complained. It was the high end prog content players who were constantly complaining they couldn’t miss a week or a day or they’d fall behind their guild and get benched.

It evens things out for them.

For us, it’s irrelevant. We weren’t catching up to them anyway, nor did we care to. It’s only those few outlier weirdos who demand they get Mythic gear mailed to them that you’re thinking of, and no one’s listening to them. lol

There’s always been a cap for for Coffer Keys. This isn’t new. And yeah, it’s so people don’t no-life it and then whine there’s nothing to do.

Blizzard is listening to them. They just implemented reroll tokens that give two mythic pieces per week just for clearing a 10, on top of the vault reward.

The casuals I’m talking about aren’t running M+, chief. These are the people who only run solo content like Delves.

We ain’t gettin’ Mythic gear, nor should we. lol

Also: I feel like with how the difficulty seems to have gone down a bit, the Mythic gear should be from like +12 or +15 instead. But that’s just me coming at this from an outside perspective where I have no room to talk, tbh. Just how I see it.

Theres no way to no-life delves. The crests and Bountiful delves are already capped. Theres no sane reason Delves need 3 layers of caps.

The sane reason is to push you to interact with the other content

After 21 years its been proven that doesn’t work. People play what they enjoy, if they hit artificial caps they just go play a different game instead.

If they really wanted to get more people to do M+ they would add M0-M5 to LFG.

Sure there is.

4 Bountifuls a day for 7 days without keys for the chest means 28 pieces of guaranteed gear— more if you get Warbound gear.

Champion gear which almost all other content gives. The crest caps stop anything better other than a very few a week.
vs M+ which isn’t capped on how many you can run a week.

Whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep at night

Open world content doesn’t give Champ track. The entire point is to limit how quickly we gear.

You’re not allowed to go into Delves upon hitting max level and get 28 guaranteed pieces of end game gear. It’s really just that simple.

We’re talking about open world players that shouldn’t be gearing up that fast and M+ and raiders who also shouldn’t be gearing up that fast to bypass their key and raid levels.

Delves are the easiest content. They are absolutely going to be limited because of guaranteed gear.
