I wish World of Warcraft had a creative mode where it clears out a battleground map and you can redesign it anyway you want or a small portion of the world.
I remember when I was younger I used to play Halo3 and I really enjoyed creating maps. Recently, I’m into Minecraft simply just for the creative ability to build towns/houses and whatnot. I remember when Wildstar was still around, they had a creative mode for building houses or something. Too bad they shut down, I never got to try out that system.
I just feel very creative and want to create something cool on my favorite game and invite my friends to check out what I made. If you like building things or like the idea, what do you guys think about this being introduced into wow?
EQ2 if you want to build some pretty nifty houses/compounds. Also their dungeon maker is pretty decent. I never really paid much attention to the map system. I know in EQ1 you had to learn something or do something to make the maps viewable… was it cartography? I don’t remember.
I’m still traumatized by all the crazy terrain glitches in the WoD beta that convinced me that WoW’s engine could never handle a public terrain editor.
Holes in world you could randomly fall through, rivers criss-crossing the sky marking invisible boundaries, wierd sitauations where the ground or lighting would change depending on what direction you were facing … just a lot of little glitchy things that hinted there’s lot of subtle black magic to crafting the terrain art in WoW.
Maybe these are not a surprise to people experienced in level editting or exploring out-of-bounds, but I just found it eye-opening how much work it takes to polish a beta map into the smooth live maps we get in-game.
