Creating new Characters - locked to BfA instances

Title pretty much sums it up. I have come back from a year or so break, and any new characters I create it locks me to only Battle for Azeroth instances. even if I timewalk to a different period, like Shadowlands - the only instances I have available is for BfA - is that the way it is now? for leveling new toons i prefered classic dungeons, but have no idea how to have them show in the LFG tool.

Do you have a maximum level character on the account already? If so, did you log out and log in to the alt and do the dungeons update in that case?

all of my toons are lvl 60 - I played all the way through Shadowlands before my break, but I never bought dragonlands.

If you never bought Dragonflight, then that’s your issue. You have to have 1 max level (level 70) character, in order to take alts to Chromie in either Org or Stormwind to go wherever you want to level alts.

wow - that is disappointing to hear. seems odd to force people to buy an expansion to be able to use core aspects of the game that has been around since vanilla. appreciate the response, but that is just really terrible on Blizz’s part.

It’s about stream lining players.

If you wait like a month, it wont be BFA. It’ll be Dragonflight. Basically everyone will get free access to Dragonflight with the release of War Within and new alts will be sent there instead of BFA

This is not true. When I started a new account during DF on my first character, I had to go to BfA after completing Exiles’ Reach and the BfA entry scenario. However, after unlocking the portal room in Boralus I went back to Stormwind and was able to choose a different expansion.

OP says she has switched Chromie time expansions. I know there’s a bug that sometimes prevents dungeons from changing. I’ve worked through that in the past with multiple reloads, relogs, and Alt-F4.

To op: did you not know there was an expansion relesed like 2 years ago?

yes - but I stopped playing before dragon flight came out, and just came back. wasn’t sure if i was going to pick up the next xpac - was trying out the changes to see if i liked it. just thought it odd that if I chose to stay on current time and not time walk, i lost the ability to queue for classic dungeons.

I haven’t checked to see if Chromie time will unlock it still, but you don’t want to do that anyway because nobody is queuing for those dungeons for the same reason you’re not now. All you will do is lock yourself out of the BFA ones. At least the last time I did this that was true.

This is out of date. They changed it about a year ago iirc.

There are players queueing in all expansions. It’s easy to set your hearth at the embassy (for Horde) or in the Dwarven District (for Alliance) so you can switch dungeons with your mood. No matter what expansion you have chosen with Chromie, you can still do leveling in a different expansion once you have opened it, if it requires being opened.

the issue is this - if you timewalk to MoP, you can get MOP instances. if you set to shadowlands, you get BfA. if you set to Legion, you get BfA. I don’t understand why I am essentially forced to do BfA instances when I do not want to. i mean it is what it is, but I spent so much tim in BfA i got burned out on that content and want to avoid it - but if i want to instance to level, im locked into those instances.

Well, the good news is that in about 2 months you’ll be able to play with a whole new set of dungeons assuming you don’t buy the expansion. :dracthyr_nod:

very true LOL - i will most likely get it.
and of course - as soon as I post this, I log in on a new Mecha-Gnome, go to Orobos and look, and classic dungeons are there now. odd, but all good now i guess.
