Want to know why nobody wants to help new players in the Newcomer chat channel?
It’s a free-for-all worse than trade chat. What reason do I have to remain a Guide if I get to deal with endless spam in /5 ?
Newcomer chat needs its own set of rules where posts are only related to newcomers seeking help and not about the intricacies of how Taurens can mate with Vulpera. It’s getting old.

You’re proposing a good idea but how exactly would you moderate it? How would you propose the spam be kept out? I like the idea but I feel like restricting the channel would be difficult.
I am signed up for a Guide on most of my level 60s so given I do a lot of casual play I see a lot of Newcomer chat. And although there is a degree of nonsense posts, I dont find it overwhelming. New players still get their questions answered and that’s the main thing.
When it happens I recommend the people doing it move to normal chat channels and if it gets objectionable I report them. I also tell new players how to use the Ignore function.

Speak for yourself, I and many others still make efforts to help people.
Newcomer Chat is subject to the same rules as other chats, if a Newcomer is being excessively hostile, or spamming a bunch of nonsense, report them. You can even use the opportunity to inform Newcomers how to use the report function.
You’re never going to stop any channel from occasionally veering away from it’s intended purpose, just roll with the punches imo.

i rarely see any negativity on it. I see babylocs ask questions and green flags answer them typically well and strait forward with other greenflags either supporting, correcting or elaborating on answers, its been chill for all but like 1 discussion where a babyloc was trying to give to bad advice to other newbies and a few people corrected them and they didnt like that. but thats 1 out 100’s
Bring back world wide chat.
What in Maldraxxis is a babyloc?
baby warlocks? Murlocs?
Why are there baby murlocs in the newcomer chat?
Wha?? But… huh? You live on a strange server…
Nice!
newcomers have a symbol next to their name in chat and floating over their toons head, its a little baby murloc

They already did. It’s called LookingForGroup. You have to manually join it.

Ah. Ive never seen one of those before.
I didn’t see that, when I had access to it. I saw Green Flags next the names of Guides and above their heads, though.
Can you elaborate, Beaky? I am a Guide on both the Horde and Alliance on multiple toons. I wanna say maybe once in a while, conversation goes off the rails but most of the time it’s people genuinely helping new or returning players. Most of the other Guides I’ve interacted with also seem reasonable and most people don’t tolerate troll behavior on that particular channel.
