The purpose of this is to create a mage spell(s). Get creative, but not OP. I’ll start with a few.
Singularity - PvP Talent
2.5 second cast, 1 minute cooldown, 40% mana cost
Create a singularity which will strip all player effects (buffs and debuffs) within 20 yards. Additionally, players are slowed by 90%, decaying 30% every 2 seconds.
Hydra - 60 Talent
Instant cast, 45 second cooldown, 15% mana cost. Max 2 charges.
Summon a multi-headed hydra at target location within 35 yards, which will attack your targets. Changes according to specialization. 9 second duration.
Arcane - Shoots arcane missiles at up to 3 targets. Final cast is a supernova.
Fire - Shoots firebolts at up to 3 targets. Damage stacks upto 3x. FInal cast is a pyroblast.
Frost - Shoots ice lances at target, gradually slowing target by 3% per ice lance (max 60%). Final cast is a frost nova.
Numbers can always be tweaked! What I wouldn’t give for a blackhole spell and summon hydra! It is amazing the IPs that Blizzard have created. Would love to see them tap into their sister universes more often for spells. They already do with pets (like the murloc pets) and mounts (HoTs, etc).

tbh i just want slow fall castable while mounted.
but here are some ideas:
learn spell: 10 min cooldown. learns the last spell someone casted and cast it once/3-5 seconds. more for roleplay than anything else. as a master of magic it would be cool to study a warlock and summon a gate even if only usable for like 3-5 second. same goes for shaman rez or lightning
telepathy: passive. would be cool to type in stormwind trade chat from goldshire.
transmogrify: pretty self explanatory. a master of the arcane arts shouldn’t have any problem changing the look of your armor.
waterwalking: i don’t play frost but at least they should have this ability. it just makes sense

Arcane lessons:
Next cast after casting Arcane lesson will grant the following:
Fireblast: you gain shatter mechanics For 10 seconds
Blink: you gain 1 charge of Pom
Frost nova: causes the next frostbolt you cast to also give you blazing speed.
Idk, just some weird thoughts.

Superior Arcane Blast: instant, 1 damage. An arcane walnut falls from the sky and bonks a blizz dev on the head, prompting them to give mages a tank spec.

I’ve always been a fan of mages learning blood magic. We have blood bolt. Transfusion. Stuff like that. Could be worked into a fun thing

I would like to see more lore flavour for arcane, and its masterful ability to manipulate the arcane some would be changes to talents or new abilities like;
Eye of Dalaran: focus your magics allowing all 6 arcane barrages to strike a single target.
Leyline Seal: replaces ring of frost, release a pulse along the latent leylines in azeroth putting targets struck in stasis.
Mass teleport: target a location within X distance and after a short channel time teleport up to 25 players to said location.
Nether tempest: each wave of arcane missiles that strike a target with nether tempest adds to the storm of magic increasing its proc rate and damage.
Power overwhelming: allow arcane missiles to be used during arcane power while casting other spells increasing the haste with each missile wave.

Self Sufficience: You are now capable of playing fire without having to loot 2-5 different specific items every expansion. 1 sec cast. 300 year cooldown.

a spell-breaker-looking tank spec for mage would be cool! using wards to mitigate damage so unlike other tanks, you don’t have to be the one getting hit by the boss even though you’re tanking!

I was thinking less spell breaker, more barrier. Like a disc priest except tank. There’s an entire school of magic dedicated to protective spells/wards and such. Unless that’s what you meant by spellbreaker >.> I always think spellbreaker -> counterspeller.
Something like inverted stagger, maybe? Base it around managing a mana pool and putting up barriers that convert damage into mana loss. Rune of Power except damage reduction, etc. May just be me but gods do I want a slow-as-HECK clothie ward tank xD
And, and…different buffs depending on the level of the mana pool - keep the pool high for damage mitigation, or play dangerously and keep it below some low percentage for a damage buff. Iunno. Ton of ways they could do it.
Really, I just want to play a mage but cannot stand playing a pure DPS spec xD

Kind of plays into the idea of fire as a mobile spec while adding a degree of control…
Preserve Flame
Instant cast, 3 second cooldown
Preserves a Hot Streak as a [Firebolt Charge], up to 5 charges.
combined with
Firebolt Barrage
1.5 second channel, can move while channeling
Consumes [Firebolt Charge] to hurl a barrage of firebolts at the target. Number of firebolts is modified by the number of [Firebolt Charge], with each charge increasing channel time by 1 second.
So if you know you have a period where you can’t stand still coming up or you have hot streaks that would otherwise go to waste, you can stow a few away as charges for use in a barrage later.

Glacier: Stuns the target for 4 seconds. Only usuable when target is frozen. Treats target as if it were frozen.
Does a % of damage in Pve when the target can’t be stunned.

Frost
Chill Seeker (Passive)
- Every time your Frostbolt fails to generate Brain Freeze, your next Frostbolt has a 5% increased chance of generating Brain Freeze. Stacks up to 10 times. Stacks reset whenever Frostbolt generates Brain Freeze.
Icy Veins (change)
- For X seconds, all your spells treat the target as if it were frozen.

Once again, I’m proposing that Arcane Blast, Fireball, and Frostbolt be removed and replaced by Frostfire Bolt. Make it the primary nuke for all three mage specializations. Each specialization gets a passive effect that gives it closer functionality to their current nuke (increased Chill Effect as Frost, More Fire Damage over Time as Fire, and Arcane Charges as Arcane). This new version of FFB would give mages a baseline spell that can hit enemies with immunities/resistances by counting as a different element and give all mages a universal nuke spell that can still proc Heating Up, Brain Freeze, Clearcasting, etc. Blizzard could add a glyph if they want FFB to look like Fireball, Frost Bolt, or Arcane Blast currently does.
Prismatic Deflection
instant cast
Creates a barrier of arcane magic rendering the mage immune to all damage and effects for 1.5s, 2 charges, 30s recharge, off the gcd
Distortion
instant cast, replaces invisibility
causes the mage to go invisible for 3 seconds. 12s cooldown, off the gcd
(I like this because I imagine arcane as elusive and hard to pin down. Utilizing time and space to be slippery)
Telekinesis
instant cast
allows the mage to loot all nearby corpses within 30 yards instantly.
Telekinetic Travel
instant cast
basically flight form that causes the mage to fly around like a Dr Strange

Field of Invisibility (PvP talent):
Creates a stationary dome of 5 yard radius to grant invisibility for the mage and up to two extra players as long as they stay inside. Channeled. 1 minute duration. 5 min cooldown.
Improved Mirror Images (PvP talent):
Give the Mirror Images more advanced spells and a better artificial intelligence. Basically the Thorgast anima power. It fits like a glove for a PvP talent.
Arcane Flight (Talent):
Replaces Slow Fall. Levitates the caster above ground granting 30% speed increase. 10 minute duration. (Sorceresses in Warcraft 3 used to be floating all the time).
Mass Teleport (PvP talent):
The caster teleports up to 5 people in a 5 yard radius (there’s an AoE mark to indicate that) to a previously placed Arcane Beacon in a maximum of 100 yard range of distance. 15 second cast time. 10 minute cooldown. The players get a debuff that prevents them to take another Mass Teleport for 10 minutes.
(This is a spell obviously tailored for BGs or open world, not arena)
Illusion (redesigned):
Can be cast on humanoid, undead, dragonkin or demon enemies as well (must not be aggroed or be dead). The diguise greatly reduces the aggro radius from similar enemies. Breaks on entering combat. 5 minute duration. 5 minute cooldown. (The spell still keeps the fun aspect of being used on players, but with this new added pve “pseudo-stealth” flavor)

Um… But there are not immunities/resistances to a specific element anymore (like happened in classic), so it makes the whole “goal” of your idea kind of pointless…
I’d love to have FFB back as a standalone spell because it’s useful for:
- Fire having a snare
- Frost and Arcane having something to nuke when locked out of their schools
The elemental boss in SSC is still immune to frost and nature spells. The construct boss in Tempest Keep: The Eye is immune to arcane damage. There might be more, but those stick out because I encountered difficulty when doing transmog runs.
That’s 10+ year old content though… For those bosses you can just swap your spec real quick to 1 shot it… But even in that case, just un-pruning the old FFB should’ve been enough, because it would allow that usage and some occasional level cap usage as well.
TBH, a bit side-topic on that, I’d love a glyph to change Flurry to FFB, because visually Flurry feels quite meh compared to FFB.

For arcane as it desperately needs new spells:
Cosmic Disintegration Ray: A channeled beam that can pass through targets to deal AOE damage in a line wherever the beam is. Maybe have it explode at the end of the channel.
Arcane Tome: Place a magical tome at a target location. This tome emits arcane explosions.
