When I tested the ST damage before the changes on a dummy at 575 ilvl and poorly optimized secondary stats I was doing about 640k dps. Now I’m doing the same dps at 587 ilvl with highly optimized secondary stats, better trinkets and 2 vivacity enchants on weapons.
New rotation has 2 options. Blast on burden then barrage(not spell queued), or Barrage on Burden (again you have to now wait for blast cast to end, cant spell queue). Second option is less dps but is less mana intensive so you would switch to that rotation when going oom. Rotation is gutted and honestly so is the dps. I should be doing way more damage even after the nerfs. People were saying “its just a 5% nerf”. No its closer to a 20% nerf.
You have two options but only one is optimal. You only use AB with BoP. You only use Abarr if the following conditions are true: 4 Arcane Charges, Either GI or Intuition, You are casting AB and have NP+1… You have no NP or CC procs available.
The DPS loss you are talking about is only occurring because you are not using the new rotation optimally.

you are just completely wrong.
he goes oom doing his rotation after surge ends, has no time anomaly or high current mana%. He’s casting way too many blasts.
Clearly, you use Fire Blast after Burden of Power. The icons are both red, so it makes sense.

Dude I pulled that directly from Poroms guide on Wowhead. Obviously youre doing something wrong I was just trying to help. Keep doing you though.
I think it’s kind of wild to say i’m the one that’s wrong when youre the one experiencing a 20% dps loss…
I am not experiencing that loss and just thought I would share my thoughts as to why youre experiencing that loss to help you out. If you’d read Poroms guide top to bottom I think it would really help you out. Specifically the portion in the rotation section that discusses the interaction with BoP and GI. It explains clearly how youre supposed to interact with both now.
Also it’s worth noting that in Alter Time… the official Mage Discord. Most of the mages in there are not experiencing the same dps loss as you and unanimously agree with the 5% or less dps loss this change has created with BoP. Also everyone agrees that SF is still around 10% ahead of the pack when it comes to dps. So nerfs are still incoming.

Why do you have 587 ilvl and highly optimized secondary stats? It’s all gonna be meaningless when M0 comes out next week.
Please take some time off during the preseason, maybe don’t go touch grass but at least open the window and take a whiff while they cut it?

the post was referring to the spell queuing on burden of power before they changed it. On 9-3 after the patch you still could not spell queue blast into barrage with burden without losing 4 arcane charges. Someone else on the mage forums mentioned this so I know I’m not crazy. Now it just consumes GI on spell queue, must have been hotfixed.
I was rattling my little head trying to figure out what the heck “GI” was an acronym for.
Glorious Incandescence does in fact get consumed if you use barrage after Burden of Power. It didn’t used to be like this. Feels really lame.
Before, you could do an Arcane Blast then immediately use arcane barrage and you’d still have an Glorious Incandescence buff left to use.
Was especially fun in with 20 stacks of Arcane Harmony, because the first barrage would get the multiplier, then barrage again and then back into arcane blasting.
Not sure why they’d change it. At least, that is how I would use it. I’m not a mythic or heroic raider, so my execution of the spell isn’t based on metrics but rather what felt fun.
