Look, I know this will never happen, but a few of us in guild were talking about how much we loved the thrill of PvP back in 2004/5 before we really saw character deaths as a strategy rather than a tragedy. Back then many of us were trying to avoid death on our PvP server (shadowmoon) with a passion that approached how we see HC now.
We love HC for bringing that excitement back. But darn it we miss our PvP fix. Not that I’d want to BG with a toon that I’ve put days of /played into.
So we were thinking what if Blizz opened up all the Classic BG’s to armies of level 1’s (or 5’s or 10’s or some other low pick-a-level) and let the throw-away low-cost-to-acquire characters fight matches on the maps to the literal death.
I know this may be polarizing, but I honestly think I’d get a thrill out of being a level 10 or whatever in Alterac Valley facing permanent death (or victory!) against a 40-player contingent of horde.
C’mon - it’ll never happen (but you know you want to
I’ll say it till I’m blue in the face, let’s just have HC PvP servers. 10-19 brackets are easy enough to level to, though I imagine a lot of players will opt for the deserter buff if things start going south for the team. I think the entire concept would be fascinating to witness.
Players won’t be leaving town solo, group play would be such a major focus on a PvP realm. You might even have some players dedicating time as a scout in areas with 2nd-3rd accounts (definitely not me). Typically with hardcore PvP games you’ll have the “blues” policing areas too.
Additionally, (in other PvP games where you can be looted by other players when you die), you accept that risk and it makes the loss of a few items easier to deal. Not saying losing a level 20/30/40+ etc would be as easy to deal but imagine those that really enjoy it will learn to accept it. Or take a break and come back later.

For one gold I will explain how you and your guildies can get all the PvP action you desire.

This is simply not true cornball. You “think” people will be focusing on grouping up before they leave town.
The reality is rogues/stealth classes will be 70% of the population ganking lowbies, and classes like healers or tanks wont even get chances to level.
Considering multiple MMOs have existed where you lose everything on death - where items you carry are significantly more important in those games than in WoW - and the main deterrent to preventing that from happening to you is by rolling with groups, I beg to differ.
I know PvE players quit the moment a rogue/druid pop out of stealth and ruin their peaceful questing existence, but that’s not the mindset of players that want this experience. You’re going to have to prepare, and that means being in groups. And yeah, I’m sure a handful of players more will role stealth classes but that’s going to affect each side equally.
And no one is going to role a tank on a HC* pvp server. No one wants to PvE.
And the amount of classes that can hard counter a rogue just makes that argument completely asinine. 5 rogue vs 5 mages, 5 hunters, 5 warriors, etc, youre getting bursted, bled, CCd to death and they don’t have to coordinate that. 5 rogues all overlapping CC are going to fumble, hard. And druids, well, they’ll just run away.
It sounds fun but it would just be filled with Twink rogues. Their toolkit fleshes out faster and Sinister Strike is great for proccing main-hand weapon enchants.
I have one of every class sitting around 15 and agree that as lows go rogue is pretty awesome in that context. But even given that, I think a 40x40 AV filled with 39 rogues on each side (plus one non-conformist doing something else) would be fun. Would it make sense? Absolutely not. Would there be balance? Never. As I said it would just be a “for the giggles” diversion between sessions leveling in HC as it is. As much as I enjoy HC the higher my main gets the more puckering the experience gets. Sure I can swap into retail or reg Classic for a breather or change of pace. But as with every version/server you develop acquaintanceships/friendships and we just thought it would be hilarious to spend a couple hours running some throw-away toons to 10 then blowing off some stress in a crazy AV. No crazier than the “mc’gora” and deathroll matches that seem to crop up with regularity. Will it ever happen - nah. But if it did I might even watch some streamers doing a 40x40 level 10 match. And I almost never watch streamers. LOL
They need to make it so that hardcore characters don’t die in battle grounds. Instead they just pass out, and respawn in a bed or something.
Having battle grounds to the death is the silliest idea ever. You would never be able to complete a battle ground, or it would just be 1 person finishing it.
