What if you make a new BG map thats just a series of crate drops as youd see in the real world. Make it an epic. Allow dragonriding.
Use exiwting zones as maps. E.g. Arathi Highlands.

Sounds like seething shore, but with flying. Could be neat.
But the nodes arent predetermined
The idea of crate raids is just dumb. The fact that people would rather fly around and open boxes to gear for PvP rather than play the game undergeared really shows how stupid gearing is in PvP. Who actually enjoys gearing up? Just give everyone templates with the ability to buy items for honor/conquest that adjusts our secondary stats.
It’s not satisfying or fun. We’ve progressed our gear 100 times already, it’s gotten old. Just let us have fun. Let me have a team of meat shields. They might be horrible but at least they’ll take 5 seconds to die instead of accidentally getting 1 shot by an AOE ability
I want a proper king of the hill map. One point pops up for a little bit then gets randomly moved. Holding the point gets you points and getting kills on the point gets you some bonus points too, like killing the orb carriers in temple does.
I enjoy gearing up
I agree with you. But see, this is a map suggestion. The crates here arent in the open world.
No prob, I’ll give you the option to gear up
But everyone else just instantly gets max gear
This concept is really hilarious for some reason, but it would be boring as a BG. I’d rather bring SSvTM into the epic rotation.
Sold.
[edit]
Wanted to add IMO it’s gearing alts that’s annoying. Gearing one toon is easy, maybe even two. Past that it’s a chore for most people, thus crate farms.
The way conquest gearing works there’s literally no catchup mechanic for alts and if anything you actually spend more time trying to gain conquest if you’re catching up to the current seasonal conquest cap than if you simply have stayed on top of capping each week.
Definitely needs some improvements there. Doing what is essentially a non-PvP activity (let’s face it a 40 player raid group flying around grabbing crates is not going to encounter any meaningful PvP) should not be the “best” way to gear up alts for PvP. And to me it sounds really boring.
I don’t disagree with you, but it’s the in-game solution players came up with.
IMO people don’t really want to have to do crate farms, but they want to play their alts without as much worry that they’re outgeared.
People who have a ton of time to play might retort, “you don’t have to play more than one or two toons if you don’t have time.” Maybe they actually believe that. But that mentality doesn’t make sense in a game with so many classes and specs available.
I really feel like people read the title, skipped the body, and just startted complaining about Crate Farming in then real world.
Thanks to the one guyw ho saw this was an inverse of Seething Shore. I appreciate you.
Yep sorry I contributed to the off topic as well.
I think this would be perfect as a brawl. Maybe not so much an epic battleground by itself, but definitely a brawl.
Reason I don’t think it would work as-is as an epic battleground is it would just be a series of 40v40 team fights which could get old fast. Maybe if it had some other objectives too that could break it up enough.
100% agree with this.
Getting from 1 to 80 is me learning my class. Getting to stomped in PvP at max level repeatedly does not help me to learn anything new, and it isn’t gratifying. It just makes me want to not play that class anymore. Crate farming is mind-numbingly boring but at least it doesn’t feel like a punishment. For new players it must be a huge turn off. It’s no wonder the game isn’t attracting new blood into PvP.
I don’t mind the idea of some kind of normalisation that puts everyone on mostly the same playing field, but gear could still account for another 5-10% of daamge or something. Gear is still something you should get (especially at higher ratings) but won’t ruin your fun in the interim.
OK BUT THIS IS A MAP
This is the exact opposite of an MMO, I suppose we are in the age of instant gratification though.
I WANT TO PUT IN NO WORK BUT I WANT TO BE ON THE SAME LEVEL AS EVERYONE ELSE MUAHAHAHA.
You can put in far less effort in pvp and end up with full Conq. Hows what Bob suggested any different?
You can half AFK through LFR and do the same thing, so why have gear acquisition in an MMO at all?
You can get Mythic Raiding gear in LFR?
