Crashing with "Access Violation/memory could not be read" error

Hey there -

I recently built a new PC and over the last two weeks have been having some issues with random crashing a few times a week. There’s no specific time frame or reason why that I can determine. Sometimes it’s within 30 mins, other times I can play for 6 hours without seeing one at all. WoW.exe is the only thing that crashes and no temps are getting too high. Only once was there a full PC crash, the rest are just an error dialogue combined with a WoW crash.

I have not received crashes in any other game, but I haven’t played much else over the last week to really test it around with other game. Have reinstalled WoW, run repair tool, run without addons, checked drivers, updated drivers and windows, etc. I have looked online and seen a lot of different reasons that could be causing this.

Error:

Program: C\Games (m.2) World of Warcraft retall_ Wow.exe
Exception: ACCESS VIOLATION - The instruction at
"0x00007ff703765f* referenced memory at “Odfffffffffffffff”.
The memory could not be “read”.

ProcessID: 1196
ThreadID: 23056

Press OK to terminate the application.

Would appreciate it if anyone a little smarter than me can help me figure out what might be going on here before I take the CPU and Mobo to Microcenter or a local shop :frowning:

Access violation errors are usually related to drivers, but sometimes are about actual permissions on the drive. I noticed your WoW directory path isn’t the standard installation location, so that could be related.

Not certain what that is, would you be able to explain? Looked it up but can’t seem to find anything specific

Thanks. Going to go through drivers again, and reinstall WoW into the regular pathway.

In short … Wow does not like to be on more than one display at a time.
Two different refresh rates.

Actually that’s not true I play across three identical monitors. You just have to set the refresh rate on all of them to be the same. In my case it’s not a problem because the monitors are identical. To play across the monitors they all need to be set to the same refresh and same resolution for a trouble free experience
