Crashing, freezing, and stuttering after 8.3 [Intel GPUs]

I’m having major issues as well since 8.3 went live.

MacOS Catalina v10.15.2
Mabook Pro Reitina 15 Inch Mid 2015
2.8ghz Quad Core Intel Core i7
16 GB RAM
AMD Radeon R9 M370x Graphics and Intel Iris pro 1536MB - both on the laptop

Game loads then i experience random and frequent freezes before it crashes the computer entirely. Was working perfectly fine for almost a year, and then 8.3 goes live and WOW retail is entirely unplayable for me now. Classic WOW works fine.

UPDATE - I went to preferences and energy saving and disabled GPU switching between the INTEL graphics and my AMD graphics that are built in. Doing this resolved the issue. it seems the issue is with the Intel IRIS graphics built into the CPU. For some reason the 8.3 update does not play nice with Intel graphics.

8.3 is virtually unplayable, for me.

Mac OS Catalina v10.15.2
2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 (iMac 2015)

Entering combat, sometimes in the middle of combat, sometimes just running around the game freezes and I get the rainbow curser. Most of the time this lasts 5-10 seconds before I can move my character again, other times it restarts my computer entirely. If it doesn’t freeze, it lags so that my character stutters as I walk or fly.

The freezing happens most frequently on bonus objectives in Vale and Uldum, during Visions from the Heart Chamber, or when engaging in wPvP and there are a lot of players around. It also freezes in other zones - Nazshj’atar, Nazmir, and Stormwind from my experience. The restart happens most frequently during cutscenes.

Just to add, I do not receive any errors. The game freezes and I’m unable to even alt-tab to force quit WoW. Also ran a diagnostics on my machine with no issues detected.

mid-2015 15 inch MacBook Pro Retina (11,5) - 16 GB of memory, Catalina 10.15.2.
I tried the “turn off Auto Detect in graphics options” but it hard crashed the machine. After rebooting on a hunch I set the graphics option to use the Intel builtin graphics function (Iris Pro) and the game runs - slowly but it does run with no crashes. Someone didn’t do very much prerelease testing I suspect.

This still didn’t work for me so probably won’t for the majority of Mac users. Thanks for looking out though!

Still not a word from Blizzard.

some of us do not have that option because we only have one 1 gpu on our Mb’s

I’m having the same problems but I’m not even on a Mac. I am randomly just stuttering for up to 20 seconds. I’ve turned my graphics down even though I’m in places I used to have them up and it’s still not working…

We just want to play. We understand that each new patch may have problems to solve, but we would like to know if they are doing something to solve it, and it would be very good if they told us what the problem is by answering the threads in the forum, because it’s also game time that we are paying and That’s being lost.

Pretty much crippling the ability to play the game right now.

Having the same issue in the 8.3 areas. Figured the more people report the issue it may get fixed faster.

Update pls blizzard?

Having the same issue on my 2015 MacBook Pro OS Catalina Version 10.15.2. Game freezes randomly no matter where I’m at, has the rainbow wheel pop up for 10-20 seconds and then the game loads back up again. I’ve also had it completely shut down my MacBook. I’m in a raiding guild and I can’t even raid with the amount of lag/rainbow swirling happening. Should be fixed ASAP. Almost thought it was my MacBook alone, so I’m real glad I checked the forums.

Mac OS Version: macOS 10.15.2 (19C57)
System model: MacBook Pro 13’ early 2015 3.1 GHz i7
Symptom: During the ‘the halls of origination’ quest - once in the instance the game stutters repeatedly, freezing for 5 to 10 seconds, and then eventually freezes crashing the computer. Seems to happen whenever i enter the room with the light puzzle with the game crashing usually just after the boss comes down the lift.

Guys, I may have found a solution for the time being. Try changing your resolution scale to a smaller percentage within the graphics. That helped me.

I tried this, it didn’t fix it but made the glitch occur less often. It also makes the game look so awful why play.

I am running and iMac, late 2015 with macOS Catalina, version 10.15.2
I was experiencing game freezes repeatedly during phase 7 right before the boss in the Uldum phase. My computer would eventually crash. It has helped make the game more playable by disabling all addons, changing graphics to 1, and my resolution scale to 83% (still playing with it since I do receive crashes but not as often). I was super excited when 8.3 launched because my graphics were super pretty but now I’ve learned that my computer can’t run it (atleast hopefully in the time being). I have also done a full game scan and repair. Hopefully this issue is fixed soon. I can relate to how frustrated most of you are :frowning:

Same issue here as well… Hopefully Blizzard can show how professional they are and how much we all mean to them by uploading a hotfix in like the next 10 seconds… … … 4 … … 8 …10… Darn, well maybe next time.

Mac OS Version: 10.14.6
System model: MBP Early 2015 retina 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7
Symptom: Entire OS freezing. Just to test, I tried playing in just a small windowed mode to see if I could get out of the game once it froze, but even tabbed over to another application, the entire OS freezes. I’ve repeated this on 2 characters especially in the magnificent quest line once you get to the chamber with the moving tile floors. Otherwise it crashes when a lot of people are around. I’ve crashed near rares and events in uldum, as well as bee events in stormsong. But it’s not just new content. I’ve crashed in Orgrimmar as well.

It seems to freeze for a second. Then freeze for a couple seconds. then eventually freeze permanently. This is repeatable both fullscreen and windowed and whether wow is the top window or not.

Hi Uldrision,

Version: 10.14.6
System model: Macbook Pro 13-inch Early 2015.

Symptom: I’ve tested this multiple times so I can give you a bunch of information.

It is noticeable immediately as we start in the halls of origination for patch 8.3 while doing the puzzle with the Lights. If at any point you look up and there is a large amount of lights on your screen, the stuttering begins, the computer is clearly try to catch up but cannot and then it freezes completely and a hard reboot is required.

I have also noticed this happening sometimes while questing in Uldum where there are lights events, once the event is clearly in my screen the computer stutters completely but does not crash (likely being not even graphical light is there) until I move the screen away).

This also happens most predominately in raids. I tried raiding on my main in Eternal Palace today, 10 seconds into Sivara I started stuttering but it would catch up and freezes would happen here at there.

On behemoth, once he started casting the pulse, the computer completely froze and a hard reboot was required.

Radiance was similar to Sivara but with more freezes, froze in the last 10 seconds before the boss died and as soon as it died the screen unfroze.

On Queen’s Court, froze 10 seconds in and required a hard reboot.

Important: I have tried going in with Zero addons and lowered my settings to the ultimate minimum and nothing would help.

Thank you for reaching out on the forums I hope you guys can find the solution!
