First, why is there no crafting forum to ask questions in? Please add a crafting forum with sections for each crafting profession.
I was excited about the new crafting system when I started DF but no more. I am getting nowhere with crafting in DF. My crafting skill for Blacksmithing is 69. I don’t think that crafting skill level matters. I have not found a way to get recipes to increase it. I have made a few useful items which is good but I am now unable to advance my crafting skill for any finished goods profession, not even cooking. I have found no other way to get it.
The crafting order system seemed cool at first but I have never used it. I have never found a way to fill a crafting order to gain skill or knowledge points. I do 3 weekly crafting quests to get knowledge points. One of the weekly crafting quests is a boring kill quest that has nothing to do with crafting.
A crafting writ system is needed with daily crafting writs to perform for each profession. Weekly quests are not enough.

If you look at the missing recipes in your profession book they will tell you were to find them. It would be nice if through out the week you would get crafting request from random npcs.

It does though. That missing 31 points hurts quite a bit once you get into higher end crafts.
For blacksmith, have 30/30 in any weapon or armor spec to unlock Master’s Hammer. You can level up to 100 using this recipe.

At the current rate it will take months to get 30/30 anything, hence the topic of this post. If I could do daily writs, I could at least get one skill or knowledge point a day.
Make sure to leverage all your First Crafts for any non-Spark, non-mettle recipe.
Also make sure to farm your rares/dirt piles for your bonus weekly points, they are pretty common and you should have them within 10-15 dirt piles/expedition packs.

Probably good advice but any recipe that gives skillups requires a spark of ingenuity. I can get one of those per week which will give me 3 skill points and the very expensive mats will be wasted.

Look also for First crafts, as while they give no skill ups, they give you a knowledge point.

if you still have items you can craft without Sparks or Mettle that are First craft, it’s important to do so.
For Blacksmithing, also do a round on the AH for BoE patterns, some are pretty cheap and can give you those easy First Craft knowledge points.
That’ll add up to you having the 90 Knowledge necessary to unlock Master’s Hammer to skill up to 100.

I just did 2 first craft recipes, no skill-up. I am not wasting any more mats on that. I have a bunch of recipes that give skillups but the mats are too expensive. I am not buying wow tokens so I can buy the mats.
I feel the same, I thought it would be cool at first but yeah, I am stuck on leveling too. Way too difficult to get the required items to even make some stuff, especially if you are not a raider or mythic player.
