Crafting Orders UI doesn't allow finishing reagents

Hey there,

I just tried out Blacksmithing for my first time with a new character, and it has an abundance of patterns to learn specialization points from. After getting fairly fair into two or three of the trees (in my case Armorsmithing → Large Plate → Shields), I’m starting to pay more attention to finishing reagents that I can use only when unlocked through other trees.

When I’m looking to craft (or later on planning to recraft later with better profession equipment) a desired piece of gear, I look forward to supplying high-quality finishing reagents to give the finished product some extra shine.

However, when I also take a look at the Crafting Orders NPC interface, no such allotment or reagents are allowed to be used or requested in the process. I worry that this might simply be an oversight, unless the whole Crafting Orders system intentionally was created for non-crafters to simply request low-quality goods.

Granted, since our server has no public requested orders to fill, I don’t personally know what the UI looks like when filling an order, nor do I know whether I have the option to use my own finishing reagents on the requests. However, seeing how the only thing a Requester can give is a comment and a commission, there’s no current transactional method in the UI to ensure/compensate/require a certain kind of finishing reagent(s) be used in your desired Crafting Order.

I doubt this is the sole reason why nobody is using the Crafting Order system on our server (WrA), but it definitely smells like a bitter meal not worth the trouble or materials.

tl;dr – Without including Quenching Fluids and Inspirations in some sort of optional reagents boxes in the Crafting Orders system, players buying BoP items from crafters can expect to get less-than-optimal-quality gear.

Yes you can use your own finishing reagents when crafting an order as I do all the time. It does require you to of spent points in the ability to use those reagents though.
I thought you could tell what could actually be requested via crafting order by simply clicking on the crafting order tab and seeing what showed on your list. Apparently this isn’t the case since on my tailor it shows the Vibrant Polishing Cloths on that list but I can’t find it when I go to request it on my JC. I don’t understand why everything a profession makes can’t be accessed.

No, in order to get away with finishing regents you need:

  1. Properly specced enough to be able to use finishing regents on the particular item.

  2. Accept the work order so you can actually start working on it to add any finishing regents you want before you hit the actual “craft/recraft” button. (ironically this is the one that gets us sometimes).

But crafting orders do allowing finishing regents, I used them all the time.

But this does not mean less then optimal quality for gear. There are many items I cannot use the fancy cloth, but I’ll still “guarantee” they see the item at R5 the first time it reaches their mailbox.
