Hey there,
I just tried out Blacksmithing for my first time with a new character, and it has an abundance of patterns to learn specialization points from. After getting fairly fair into two or three of the trees (in my case Armorsmithing → Large Plate → Shields), I’m starting to pay more attention to finishing reagents that I can use only when unlocked through other trees.
When I’m looking to craft (or later on planning to recraft later with better profession equipment) a desired piece of gear, I look forward to supplying high-quality finishing reagents to give the finished product some extra shine.
However, when I also take a look at the Crafting Orders NPC interface, no such allotment or reagents are allowed to be used or requested in the process. I worry that this might simply be an oversight, unless the whole Crafting Orders system intentionally was created for non-crafters to simply request low-quality goods.
Granted, since our server has no public requested orders to fill, I don’t personally know what the UI looks like when filling an order, nor do I know whether I have the option to use my own finishing reagents on the requests. However, seeing how the only thing a Requester can give is a comment and a commission, there’s no current transactional method in the UI to ensure/compensate/require a certain kind of finishing reagent(s) be used in your desired Crafting Order.
I doubt this is the sole reason why nobody is using the Crafting Order system on our server (WrA), but it definitely smells like a bitter meal not worth the trouble or materials.
tl;dr – Without including Quenching Fluids and Inspirations in some sort of optional reagents boxes in the Crafting Orders system, players buying BoP items from crafters can expect to get less-than-optimal-quality gear.
