Crafting orders - Let us use crafter's BOP mats and prevent scammers

Sparks, insight, even primal focus and concentrated focus included. I would rather see crafters able to sell these mats, rather than people able to request items crafted without providing the mats they could buy on the AH.

All we see is spam of people wanting azureweave bags crafted with your mats at like 50g per each mat that costs 350g on the AH. When a person puts up like 90 of these crafting orders which are obviously meant to scam crafters into inadvertently giving them free stuff to sell, I feel like that should be reportable as spam/abuse honestly. Or just limit the amount of public crafting orders that a person can put up so that people will stop doing this.

My addon auctionator scans the AH, sees the price of mats, calculates the total cost of production for an item and the potential profit. Why can’t the system do that on its own, and prevent people from putting up crafting orders that aren’t paying for the mats they are asking for? (Not preventing people from making the JC pets and selling them though)

It obviously can’t take into account the player-calculated cost of insights etc, but it can at least tell if a person is not giving a fair price for the mats they are asking for a crafter to give them, and prevent them from posting 100s of those.

Just came across an order for a bag and they’re only offering 30g. Azureweave bolts are 400g each and this takes 3. They really need to make some changes to this. The way it is now you can’t easily tell who mats your using.

Unfortunately this is their design and 100% intended, as stupid as I think it is. I saw a blue post the other day regarding “scams” and crafting orders with little to no tips and no mats, and tldr the blue poster said it’s up to the crafter to determine if they want to take an order for little or no profit, and the market will sort itself out. I wish I was kidding.

Edit: I guess I’m not allowed to quote from a Community Council thread, but I can at least link to it I hope. The quote in question is at the end of the last bullet point. “the choice of whether to fill an order or not will hopefully become more interesting, where crafters are weighing costs of reagents and skill gains against potential profits or losses from filling the order.” Work Orders, and the need for management - #3 by Drough-11150

I installed the addon “No Mats: No Make” to at least show if they’ve supplied materials before even looking at the work order. If I decide to fill a “some” or “none” order, I’ll then check out which mats they have supplied (if any) and what they’re trying to pay in commission. The default UI should at least show the “all”, “some”, and “none” for supplied materials that this addon does.

I have no idea how the devs thought that the ability to post work orders with low tips and no mats provided would be a good idea. They need to cancel all current work orders and reverse this “new feature”. They literally just created another problem that has to be solved by addons.

Blizzard always takes the side of the lazy and whiny player. In this case, lazy/whiny players complained that they “couldn’t get crafted items made” so Blizzard catered to them and just threw up a middle finger at the crafters who actually make the stuff.

Because that’s Blizzard’s M.O.

Place an item up, have the game autofill a price determined to be fair by average tip giving.

Any material they don’t add, put the current AH price on top automatically.

If the person lowers the price below the recommended, up the in-game deposit to compensate.

If the item fails to get crafted, they don’t get their deposit back. Lol

i made tens of thousands of gold so far. it’s been good for me.

Not it hasn’t. The orders you fulfilled didn’t provide no mats and almost no tip.

the orders others furfilled provided all the mats and 2k+ items… for 50g tip.

It’s a test of just how desperate I am to craft

(seeing the offers did prompt me to pool some elements to my tailor, make some azureweave cloth and craft myself some bags at last; so I guess I owe that person some thanks for the push)

Oh, so you’re on the scamming end, not the victim end.

absolutely.

I played EVE Online. I knew how this will work from the first second.

I am making contract crafting for willing crafting, at a price they agree to, within the game system. Sue me.

There is an excellent add on available called No Mats; No Make which you can filter to only show orders that provide all materials. I’m using it and its very good.

This is clearly a miss by the devs on trying to increase participation for crafting orders. They’re clearly trying to diminish the monopoly the crafting guilds have established in the game. Unfortunately, it’s clear that the scammers are working overtime to bamboozle people into making items to earn crafting points and skill ups.

Now I’m not a crafter and I’m generous with my tips for having people craft things…but should the person who’s able to craft these bags know the price of their materials and know better than to use their mats and take a 1k cut?

I feel like this is simply an awareness issue and some personable responsibility needs to be taken.

On the other hand, I’ve seen crafters who’ve had the gold and used their own mats (not needing to buy off AH), who do it simply for skill ups and what not

What I do is just click on the crafting order and open it up, and on the top left side there is a little dropdown menu next to the name of whoever put in the order. You can choose to either ignore or block the person. That’s what I do anytime I see one of those posts. And usually it clears all of them up, as it is normally the same account under different alts posting all of the bs orders.
