Crafting mats should decay over time… maybe that would solve the issue of there being millions of them on the ah at any given time.
Might also solve the issue of bots over farming stuff.

I don’t know how it would help bots. They are the ones that don’t fatigue and are constantly farming day/night
I’m not sure this solves anything other than hurting returning players.
As a rule of thumb, any excess should generally be sold off as early as possible for a half decent return in a xpac cycle.
thats a horrible decision. its thanks to bots that mats are a affordable price. we just need the bots to dip the value of dracothyst again
this is certainly a take
Bots would still saturate the market only a little bit more so % wise. They never sleep
Think this is mostly due to every players having a gathering alt, and price manipulation on the AH that encourages people to go gather way more than is needed.
I take it even further with all my 14 character just being miners/herbalists. I easily farm 30k gold a day just farming while i queue bg’s and other stuff. Real easy gold.
Bad enough there are the frozen fishes that rot and take up your entire inventory when they do! ><
I see no reason why people like me who get seasonally busy and can’t play as much during certain periods should lose the mats we’ve gathered or purchased.
Gotta face the issue, you can’t win versus bots in the long term unless you go nuclear.
I would totally be open to have some Solo self found server aka no trading allowed kind of server for players looking for that kind of experience.
Pends how you use said alt. Farming alts mid-late patch/expansion (patch adds no new farm mat then its expansion) are generally a waste of time as miss the rush. Best time to do it is at the start. Start of SL and DF level main threw story and complete it. Hop on alt with herb/mining and no longer needing to do any story thanks to the threads of fate system can just level via mining and herbing then sell those mats. Ending up making 17.91 million gold start of the expansion doing this and wont need to farm again for the duration of it.
every little bit counts. anything that saves me gold im all for
It’s a matter of supply and demand. With unlimited professions per server everyone has gatherers. So everyone can go gather instead of buy if they want. And everyone can go gather to sell if they want.
So you simultaneously massively decrease the number of buyers and increase the number of sellers. But I’d imagine how much you can gather per node is adjusted to take this into account.
And this expansion has the Awakened mats which I think is mostly a problem since they’re used by all professions. The most profitable item that uses them sets the price and demand, everything else that uses them has problems. Think my inscriber is at 75 points and every additional point is going to cost me 5-10k in mats.
I don’t imagine bots sit on their stockpiles. They’d be the ones benefiting from this idea.
They should make more of the materials consumable really. Armor kits being used for repairs rather than just a one and done buff on a piece of armor would go farther. And armor kits for all types of armor, cloth, leather, mail, plate made by tailors, LWs and blacksmiths. Let us have a system that eats up excess ore/mats rather than pointlessly dump gold on a repair NPC vendor every 3 or 4 wipes.
Same with weapons. Blade sharpening, oils, poisons, rune bindings made by alchemists & inscription. They tried to make the phials more consumable by dropping the amount of time they last, but that still didn’t solve the glut issues. They made the inscription runes last longer, which again didn’t really make any sense.
They could also give us baskets to replenish reserves like they did with cooking in pandaria. Let me bundle up these eleventy billion hochenblume I got, and give them to factions by the hundreds in trade for some rep please.
But would it save you gold or would it cost you more?
There will be less human competition due to the mats degrading. Supply goes down demand goes up.
It will have the opposite effect
Unless of course you are dedicated seller. Then it could go and make it more. As long as you don’t get degraded from bot/human competition undercuts
In the end, I think it has far more potential to backfire and cause prices to go up in the bots favor (and in their pockets) then to go to avg joe or money baron matteus
im not saying im for mats degrading though. i cant see any way degrading mats do anything but cause people to do less crafting orders and such because its to expensive between the price of mats then going up plus people wanting 15k for a crafting order. when the dracothyst droped down to 2k each i started upgrading all my crafting gear on my alts because it was cheap enough to justify
