As has been mentioned in many threads separately. Thought I’d make a new one to isolate the topic at hand. Especially as we now have some new information on it from the latest PTR builds.
Crafting a Legendary has such a gigantic gold cost (for non-cloth users) and this has pretty much led to the meme that you need to buy a WoW Token to engage with the game.
There have been no adjustments to the cost of creating legendaries. And based on the PTR info the way new legendary ranks are acquired is the same as Korthia where you get an old base piece and plug-in a new rank increasing item - Learnt at Honored rep - Made using resources from Zereth Mortis.
This to me spells that the same issues of the past 2 seasons will happen again. Markets will be monopolised by the same set few and players can be priced out of the game.
Before 9.2 hits live. Please tune down the costs of creating legendaries so people don’t have to inject more money into the game (or be forced to boost) to simply engage with it.

My experience could be a small server issue, but as of this morning, ilvl 190 cloaks are selling for 25g on my server. The orboreal shards alone cost 1000g. (And the cloaks still don’t sell btw)
Yet, the 190 plate chest pieces still sit around 15k usually. Because, as you say the price to craft is so much higher. I’ve set to leveling up my ring crafting recently, and because I didn’t feel like farming, I bought close to 100k gold worth of materials and only made 16 rings. I’m barely into the 210 progression. Which also begs the question, why on earth is there a requirement to make 15 legendaries to reach the next rank? All this does is flood the market (and makes cloaks auction for 25g).
Please.

I wanted to include the perspective of the crafter. To level up all legendaries requires millions of gold currently, and that’s just in pure vendor materials alone (not even exaggerating). To get into the market requires massive gold investment and then to even have a chance at a positive ROI you need to be crafting higher ranks and using the legendary reagents which requires hundreds of thousands of more gold.
There is a massive barrier to entry to start crafting higher ranks and to start making profits. In my opinion this should have never existed at the launch of the expansion. It seems like it was designed for guilds to funnel resources into designated crafters and not for the solo player.
Adjusting the costs of creating legendaries needs to be considered carefully. It can damage players or guilds who have or still are investing into legendary ranks and have dumped all their gold into it.
Going into 9.2, I was also disappointed to hear that it was a simple repeat of the Korthia system. The fact that every single player needs to buy a new higher rank base item isn’t acceptable in my opinion. This patch needs to provide avenues for players to upgrade their own rank 1-4 legendaries using the legendary reagents without needing any new base item, crafters or recipes. As someone who does crafting myself, I am all for this change.

I think if they did it in more of a wow token type thing it would be better right? Obviously lower all the prices of the mats if the set value is some what stagnant and you could just sell the item to the AH and get the money instantly and if someone really needed one they could just buy it from the system no insane undercutting over saturation of the market. Just an idea might be bad but I hate personally seeing on my dead server a set of base item boots go for 200k just cause no one else makes them.

With the new 291 legendaries being made available yesterday, I am once again feeling the impact of the issues with crafting in Shadowlands, as well as the issues of playing on a small server. As of this morning, there are still zero 291 plate legendary components on my auction house.
I wonder, when these were implemented, why were they not leveled as a type? What I mean is, as a jewelcrafter, if you make a 190 ring to level up your crafting, why would it not also level the necklace. The same logic applies to armor types, if you make a cloth belt, why would it not also level cloth shoulders? This would have drastically reduced the barrier to entry to crafting, and made the 15x crafts per level make much more sense.
Lets say someone wanted to be able to craft every legendary slot at max level, unreasonable, yes. But an illustration.
8 Armor Slots * 4 Armor types = 32
Neck, Ring, and Cloak = 3
Total 35
If it was done by armor type (with cloaks being built into cloth as they are crafted by tailors, and jewelery staying separate) it would have only been 5. Something expensive, but attainable if someone didn’t want to have to rely on anyone else or the auction house to gear their characters in appropriately leveled legendaries.

With the fact that most classes take ring, necklace or cape because of set pieces (shards in previous tier) it makes it even more senseless to level some specific items. Furthermore if you play more then 1 character with professions, you have to quest the whole storyline over and over again and also grind rep for the vestige recipe. I just did it on my leatherworker and my jewelcrafter, because i simply dont had the time to take 4 alts to Zereth Mortis every single day. This is a general problem when it comes to rep, that all your alts have to grind it again and again.
But I think they won’t change anything this addon as it’s the last tier.

100% I just started the grind on an alt to make cloaks, going to be a blast.

So, my demon hunter just hit 60 and I wanted to craft a 262 on her. (She has no flux for 291s obviously). Therein, it became a problem.
Due to the Vestige of Origins requiring 400 Lightless Silk, the price of Rank 5s and 6s are either at the same cost or more than the 291s for cloth. This is on a populated realm, so I don’t even wanna think about deader realms.
Could we have the crafting cost of the Vestige of Origins looked at? Specifically the cloth version. The other ones could use a look at as well I’m sure. (I don’t know about other realms, but the cost of Oxxein, Phaedrum, etc. Ore skyrocketed in 9.2 because barely anyone is in those zones anymore)
I was lucky enough to find a friendly person who crafted me a 262 for the mat cost, but it was still more expensive than just buying the 291. Lol. (The Lightless Silk alone was like 32,000g)
As rank 5s and 6s (the Vestige of Origin) is considered an outdated recipe now, I don’t see how altering the cost of that would negatively impact things.
(EDIT: I’m also not sure if a crafter could just apply the new Vestige to a rank 3 recipe to reach rank 6, but the crafter didn’t really give that option, so I have no idea. Either way, it still shouldn’t be more efficient to use a rank 7 recipe to get a rank 6. Lol.)
