Title says it all. Glad to know I leveled Leatherworking for boots I can’t use now since I went back to herb/alch.
EDIT: Editing to clarify that these were boots I crafted over a month before 8.1 dropped. I went leatherworking just to craft them with the intention of using them upon returning to herbalism. There was never a restriction like this in place until today.

One of the more annoying things to be blindsided by. I hope this is a bug and not someone’s idea of a “feature”.

I opened a Ticket about this. I will report back the response I get. If anyone else gets a response first please do the same.

I’ve opened a ticket as well. We’ll see what happens I guess?
Heres the resonse to my ticket

Hey there Norzar,
Thank you for contacting us about your Emblazoned Tempest Boots. I completely understand the concern at being unable to use those anymore.
With that in mind, while I totally get where you’re coming from and would love to help, at the moment, we aren’t certain whether this is intended or not. It seems possible that the change was made to ensure that only players with the profession could wear those boots (among other items that are experiencing the same issue), but at the moment, we don’t know for certain. It looks like you have some other boots that you can wear temporarily at least.
Just to be safe, I went ahead and passed along a bug report to our Quality Assurance team so that this can be investigated further. I encourage you to do the same, either by posting on our forums (https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/1012660/) or by using the in-game “Submit Bug” feature (found under the Help menu above “Open a Ticket”). The in-game feature is particularly helpful because it sends important character and world data to our QA team that they wouldn’t get just from a report from us, and that way, by hitting this from both our ends, we can hopefully get increased visibility on the issue. d(^-^)z
Or in other words blizzard has no idea what they’re doing again

Same thing. This doesn’t help me at all…

Hey there Tabitha,
Game Master Chaneassan here today! Thank you for your patience while your ticket was waiting in queue. I am honored to be able to address your ticket and I hope that this message finds you well today!
We’ve seen a few similar reports about profession crafted gear now requiring the profession skill itself in order to equip the gear item, whereas before it could be equipped by a character of a different profession, or no profession. At this time, because such a chance wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes, it’s unclear if this is intended or a bug. These items do have a new tooltip description line which indicates the profession skill level required, which makes it seem to be an intended change, but we don’t know for sure until our quality assurance crew and developers have a chance to take a look, and confirm one way or another.
There is at least one thread about this topic already posted, if you would like to contribute a comment there: Crafted Items Tied to Professions, Can no Longer be used as of 8.1
Hopefully this information helps you out! If not, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have regarding this.
Thank you for your support, and Happy Gaming.
I went to item restore and restored an old belt for tonight’s raid at least until they can figure out wtf they are doing. Thanks a lot Blizzard. This is ridiculous.
Yeah i found it insane that the gm thought that my old 370 with worse stats was “some other boots that you can wear temporarily at least.”
Logging on to this was more frustrating than 8.1 was exciting. This feels like the classic 15 dollars a month btw
It sort of makes sense though because otherwise you could just keep on switching professions after you crafted a piece of gear and get more than the one or two intended since they expanded the number of professions that can make this BoP gear. You could get the cloth, then the ring from JC, then the trinket from alchemy or inscription (can’t remember which now).
I would have agreed with you if this had been a restriction at the start of the expansion, or if we had a heads up before the change to prepare some other gear. But dropping it out of no where is totally not cool.

If they had a problem with someone investing that much time and gold into crafting they could have marked them as requiring the professions from the get go. The issue is that they blind sided us with no warning no patch note and theres no reason to nerf people randomly between raids.

I agree but they originally didn’t have so many sources for that type of gear. I am just suggesting it probably is intended and intended because they increased the number of professions that can make that gear.
Come on guys, obviously everyone was asking for this. They wouldn’t just up and make unrequested changes for no good reason, right?
From Today’s patch notes.
- Fixed a bug that allowed some Battle For Azeroth crafted gear to be worn by player characters who no longer had the crafting skill to create it.
It looks like Blizz is calling this a “Bug Fix” instead of a Bug

Well that’s exactly what I was afraid they were going to do. What utter rubbish.
Honestly sickening that they have the nerve to pull this.

good to know this was a ‘bug’ that is just now being addressed 4 months into the expansion

The good news, They reverted this just like it should have been. The bad news, they already confirmed that it was not a bug, so I already dropped my Max level Alchemy and picked Leather Working back up…
