The best way to farm these is by flying around and killing the rares in Isle of Dorn. Farming elites like the bees and wolves is pointless and a waste of time tbh. Just get on your level 70+ characters, turn on Handy Notes or some other rare tracker and fly around killing them. I got 10 in a few days doing this.

Maybe it isn’t but touring around the Isle of Dorn killing rares isn’t as tedious as farming mobs over and over for nothing in return.
The gold/hr is much higher though, so it’s not a complete waste that way
But ya, the drop rate is abysmal, I got 2 in the time it took me to farm the 900 pollen things for the bee mount

RNG is bad man to the point where it feels demoralizing…I get super lucky with something and super unlucky with others…
for example in one skinning session I got 2 shards…about 1 hours worth of farming
meanwhile I’ve run Cinderbrew for 2 pieces of gear I needed the neck and the belt. I ran probably 25 before I saw the neck drop which I actually gave away because I was so sick of not getting it that I crafted a 675 neck. And have yet to see the belt drop in well over 30 runs

Lol yeah, I haven’t been really trying for these, but I still have only gotten one, total.
And that was likely before they nerfed the drop rate, way back in Season One.
I actually got one yesterday in Fungal Folly…
Lol been playing since the launch of the expansion and finally just got my 4th one last night on my shaman I was lvling up. It is kinda mad isn’t it.
I have never gotten a shard from the rares, but I have gotten 2 from Delves in the past month. I’m up to 6 total.
I have 10+ Characters that are level 80. My kill count in Dorn is far, far, beyond those numbers, and I have (2). I got both of those within the first 3 weeks.

Tell you what I am going to do. I will take time out of my regular routine today and cycle through my 10 characters and do that in Dorn. I will get back to you with my results. I know I was basically doing that with those characters after they hit 80. Like I said, I will do this today and let you know.
The results:
Over 2 hours and 20 minutes I cycled through 9 characters for a total of 74 rare kills and got absolutely ZERO.
Conclusion:
You have a better chance at getting some legacy dungeon and raid mounts than you do getting a single Shard, let alone needing 10 of them.

I got my first 9 Shards in ~4000 kills. I got my last Shard after another 4500. RNG is RNG.
There’s a fast spawning rare that has a high chance to keep dropping it, took me about 10 hours to get 7. Wowhead has alot of comments to direct you - the guy in the sand area.
