CPU Utilization

Hey all, Been away for quite some time and only just recently come back and found out WoW now supports DX12 and multi-threading… however running the game on the DX12 api my Ryzen 5 1600 still only uses a single core, am I missing something or has it not been fully implemented yet??

ETA - Running Windows 10 and a GTX 1070ti

and… whishhhhhhh

I think that was this topic flying way over my head. Good luck with your answer though…

I am just here for the cookies!

Under System > Advanced > Graphics API it shows DirectX 12?

I doubt you’ll get any answer here since this is general discussion, but hey, I hope you get something in response because ever since the last patch my cpu has been going crazy with the memory leakage.

Yessir, DirectX 12 is definitely selected

Are you using Windows 10? As far as I am aware, that is a requirement. I don’t know if the recent improvements to Windows 7 includes Multicore support.

Yes, sorry I should mention also that I am using Windows 10 and a GTX 1070ti

Strange. I see I’m using multiple cores on my 6700K in DX12. Sorry, no idea what’s going on.

Update your drivers, if that doesn’t work, delete your cache folder in the WoW files.

Hi. Regarding the cache clearing does that mean the directories too or just the files in the directories?

Just the cache folder, it’ll restore itself when you launch the game.

Thanks a lot.

I’ve been seeing a bit of weirdness with my client the past week and I don’t want to run a full client repair if I can help it.

I thought the gtx 10 series didn’t have direct x12 support. I think it is a manufacturing issue and not blizzards fault

I remember being angry because my 1080 didn’t do direct x12.

The 1080 most certainly supports DX12. Why would you think it didn’t?

even now, it’s still going to mostly use one core. you should see 1 core at 100% and then some others with medium usage.

single core cpu speed is still far and away the most important thing in this game. it always will be.

Looks like I am wrong. The card does support DX12, but blizzard didn’t write code for Nvidia DX12 support on Nvidia GPUs

dx12 has been supported in wow since bfa launch. at first, it wasn’t a performance increase so they didn’t recommend using it, but in 8.1 it was optimized and became superior so cards that could use it were defaulted to it.

i think warcraft devs were probably talking about that - dx12 being supported but not optimized to where it was actually better than dx11, and perhaps not working at all on older nvidia cards where dx12 even now isn’t really a great idea.

That tweet is from almost a year ago and prior to both BFA and the multithread optimizations that happened in December. DX12 is fully supported on nvidia cards in WoW now.

ah ok then. I haven’t played since BFA release.

I have a GTX 1060 6GB. I get about 70 FPS in Arathi Highlands with DX11 and 120 FPS with DX12. The code is definitely there.
