CPU Upgrade Question

Hi Everybody,

Will upgrading an i5-2500K to a i7-2700K, which has Multithreading, lead to significant performance gains in WoW BfA? Also, wondering if upgrading to an i7-3770K, which has both Multithreading and PCIe 3.0 compatibility, would lead to even more significant performance gains.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

Here is the parts list from my DIY Rig built in 2012:

You won’t notice a difference unless you’re already using 100% of your CPU, which I doubt. Especially considering you’ve got the 2500k at 4.6GHz already.

Also, you wont be able to just upgrade to a 3000-series chip, either. That would be a new motherboard as well as a CPU.

At that point you’d be FAR better off just getting a modern CPU.

Actually, the 3770k is compatible with the mobo socket even though it’s 3rd gen Ivy Bridge.

Either way, unless you’re getting the i7 for like $20, I’d personally save up money for a new CPU, mobo, and RAM. Wait 'til mid-year for the new Ryzen launch and then choose between those and Intel’s latest based on your price limits and benchmarks then.

A lot of those older motherboards never got a BIOS update to enable it, though. Socket may be the same but without the updated BIOS, you’re pooched.

Also, not worth it.
