Cpu gpu help

currently running a i5-7300hq with a AMD RX550. Im on low settings and I lag in mythic+ and raids to the point I miss out on a GCD or two.

Im looking to upgrade. Also down for suggestions as I do not have much knowledge with this stuff. My budget would be 1K

Would a I7 8750h with a GeForce GTX 1060 12GB do me well? Im looking to run high fps on this new laptop im getting.

If you’re going with a 1K budget and would like to do max settings, just make sure the display is no greater than 1080p. High resolution eats up your GPU and CPU. 12GB VRAM sounds like a lot, make sure it has at least 16GB of onboard RAM

Something’s broken with your old laptop. Im running on 2011 rig and have 0 issues.

I still don’t see how people can play this on a laptop unless you are using an external monitor. Maybe I’m weird but I need a nice big display to play stuff on lol.

Any suggestions on what to do? I run disc clean up and been googling how to fix slowed down laptops but nothing has worked

Like someone else said, try asking in the tech forums. From my perspective, you should be just fine specs wise so it might be something else.

EDIT: Well look at that, moved to tech lol.

How much RAM do you have? How much hard disk space do you have free? What resolution are you trying to run at?

Check laptop power settings and make sure its set to favor performance when plugged in, otherwise it will throttle down your cpu and WoW actually uses a lot of that. Next give your laptop vents a good clean to make sure its not thermal throttling. Cut all excess programs off that you don’t need running.

Update your drivers too. This is especially important with AMD gfx. For some reason game patches break AMD cards more than Nvidia ones.

Try logging in on a different user, that could confirm if it is reg/user settings causing the issue or if it is possibly hardware related.

It may not be you. There is a known issue with sharding that causes lag (things like quest turn ins taking 10 seconds, spells not going into effect when cast, dying but still being attackable, holy power/energy not registering properly etc.) that you can’t do anything about. Check out the lag thread in tech support, is really easy to find if you sorry by # of replies, and see if it sounds like your problem.

Also, how many mods do you have installed? Some mods are kinda hoggish.

12GB ram.

I did a hard disk space clean up and it cleared up a bunch of room apparently.

I used a bottle of can air on the vents and got a chill mat for overheating issues.

Also just updated my drivers.

I use details, weak auras, quartz, big wiggs

My gpu and cpu arent “recommended” by canyourunit wow preferences, only minimal.

I don’t know what those last two are, but I do know what details and weak auras are. I can tell you from personal experience that those two are kinda hoggish in larger raid settings. For example in Ashran, my game is terrible with details turned on. When i turn it off, its playable again. Just something to test.

Might consider building a new PC, with a 1K Budget you could easily go with a AMD 2600, 32 gigs O’ RAM, RX 580 GPU, with SSD as your had drive…you might want to check out a couple you tube videos on how to build a PC and head over to pcpartspicker to look at prices…I think you would get more out it if you went that route IMO since prices are coming down and you always more bang for your buck rather than buying something off a store shelf.

EDIT: Consider taking your old lap top to a computer shop and see if they can upgrade you with more ram and a SSD as a hard drive replacement. Might be cheaper.

Also im running on the max resolution, 1920x1080 which is recommended for my system I do believe

Hi Ragingpoos

Your best route would be to link some different laptops you are considering.

Let’s have a look at what you are playing on now. Create a DXDiag system report:

The second section of page has DXDiag report instructions - we don’t require the MSinfo report.

That will be a wall of text. If you have issues pasting on the Forum here go ahead and put it up on pastebin.com. Provide the link code portion of the URL - example below.

(The green bold portion at the end of the link: https://pastebin.com/**Qk28Ed1P**)

What kind of FPS are you seeing when you lag out in Mythics and Raids? Describe what goes down there.

I will do this and provide the info when I get off work. Hopefully you will still be able to help then.

When I cast frostbolt and try to icelance the next gcd itll sometimes freeze in place then .5-2 seconds later everything happens all at once. Not optimal for me as im trying to mythic raid.

I cant post links for some reason but im looking at a msi with i7 8750h and a gtx 1060 12GB, 256 gb NVMe SSD 1 TB HDD
