CPU going up to 88 C while downloading patch

For the first time I see this happen to me, came back home and started download and out of nothing my cpu started going insane… heating up to almost 90 C.

While playing cyberpunk i never go past 65 C while having all settings on maximum and now its doing that with simple downloading/installing new patch.

My CPU i7 13700, liquid cooling.

PS: As I build my pc I did a cinebench test and my cpu was sitting at 76 C for all the duration of the test.

I would guess you have a defective liquid cooler. 65 c is even hot if you’re running liquid cooling playing the most graphic intensive game I have my CPU doesn’t get over 50

idk the answer to your question, but I know people complain about this all the time from the blizzard downloader if it’s any constellation. Apparently the downloader or background Agent is resource intensive. Sorry I can’t help at all, just thought I’d add that.

Sounds really odd, maybe the updater had to do a bunch of AVX operations or something, those usually heat CPUs up a lot more than regular operations. But I can’t see them having to do them for very long and definitely not long enough to roast the CPU into that range. Check for programs that might be messing with your pump speeds and make sure the pump turbine is working.

I have a 13600kf with a decent 240mm AIO and normal stress tests are around 65C and 120w for the test. I can run other specific tests though that will push it to the 75-80C range, but they ramp my wattage up to around 180w. It’s a super specific test in prime95 (small ffts, but not smallest).
