Before I get to the meat and potatoes of the question I have ill post my system specs.
Case: MasterCase Pro 5 Mid-Tower
Mobo: Asus Z170A
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600 Skylake Quad-Core 3.3 GHz
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4
PSU: [EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 watt platinum rated
Current GPU: Nividia GTX 980
HDD : WD Black 1TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive
I switched the GPU to an Nividia RTX 2060 and the CPU I switched for an Intel Core i7-6700K. ATM im using a stock cooler. The temps are a bit warm for my taste. Im not wanting to do the Overclocking scenario,so I really dont need anything massive. Just enough to keep the temps down.
I have considered getting a tower cooling system. The only thing im worried about is clearance, seeing my case is only a midtower. I was wanting some advice on if a tower cooler could fit in my case, or is there another solid alternative. Thank you for any advice
give us an example of what cooler you want, it seems your computer case can take tower coolers
for example, my case is a antec p100, its about the same dimensions as yours except your case is a bit wider. I was still able to fit in a noctua nh-d15. my gpu isn’t even near the cooler and I have enough room for the ram slots.
Think you should be fine if you wanted a big cooler like the nh-d15 or even a dark pro 4.
To be on the safe side, I would suggest the nh-d15, depending on how tall your ram sticks are, you can slide one of the fans a bit upward to give more clearance to your sticks, not sure about the other coolers can do that.
After watching some install videos,a concern came up. The clearance between the fan and the RAM. My RAM isnt exactly what you’d call low profile. That did give me room for pause. Id put some thought into Cooler Master i71C. It might not be the best but it would sure beat stock
You have lots of clearance for the 212 as you can raise the fan up if need be as well.
The case has a max cpu cooler height of 190mm and the 212 evo is 159mm but if you get the black edition it looks like you can raise the fan higher then the evo would allow.
a deepcool gammaxx 400, costs under 30 bucks and has out preformed AIO’s on 3 of my systems
in fact i have 2 ryzen builds that full load this thing keeps them 61-63C.
the $150+ AIO’s i was using would flat out under full load stress tests at around 69-71C
on the i7 (i forget honestly what it is as i never use it, my daughters pc i built 2 years ago) if i remember right temps were about the same.
