Cox high latency issue - Need More Information

Title says it all. Getting massive lag spikes, upward of 4k+ms in game. I ran a MTR with my modem directly connected to my PC and the packet loss and spikes begin at Equinix LA (presumably Blizzard infrastructure) and trickle down until Equinix Chicago where my server is located.

As you can see, the massive lag spikes begin at -ae1-br01-eqla1.as57976.net and -et-0-0-2-br01-swlv10.as57976.net coupled with 2% loss all the way through to 24.105.62.129. This doesn’t seem to be my game or addons as I ran the MTR when WoW was not running.

I am on COX and I live in California. However, it doesn’t seem to be my ISP. Although with the extreme spikes at Equinix LA, there are 20 ms spikes at the first few hops in my MTR which is weird but I don’t think that’s the cause. I think the loss and the 2k+ ms at Equinix LA is the culprit here.

I can’t include links in my post apparently so I had to add a (-) to the beginning of the Equinix LA hostnames.

Me and two other raid members, all on cox, got massive spikes a minute or two into a raid boss fight. Had to sit to figure out the issue.

Does not appear to be any issues outside of that boss fight.

Which boss was it? I was lagging terribly during Jadefire Masters.

Mekkatorque

Also on Cox in Las Vegas and receiving some very big lag spikes sporadically. 60ms one moment, 3000ms the next:

I am getting the samething from the same ISP couldnt raid today, ruined a key its depressing COX cable please fix it. its only hindering my blizzard games and not my others im able to stream other games perfectly fine.

Anyone tried contacting cox yet? Think I’ll give them a call but I bet its on Blizzards end.

Won’t let me post anymore for whatever reason, so I’ll just have to edit.

Anyone got a twitter to @blizzardCS and get their attention?

From the MTR, it seems like the spikes begin when it hits Blizzard infrastructure at Equinix LA (LA Datacenter). But I also have 20ms spikes on my first few hops which is a 300% spike, so it could be COX. The problem is, a 7ms to 21ms spike isn’t going to set a fire at COX at all.

Same issues here. Located in California and Cox as ISP. Had issues while on a M+ run and then in raid. Ended up sitting myself out.

In Arizona, trying to raid. Trash is not bad. Unreal lag when bosses are pulled.

Yeah, bosses are awful. I had to sit myself as well.

Howdy!

This issue appears to be with peering to us from Cox as this issue is also impacting Overwatch and seems to be increasing in impact for Cox. Can you ask your guildmates to post WinMTRs in this thread? Anyone else with Cox in this thread please run a WinMTR to host IP: 137.221.105.2
Run the test when the issue is at it’s worst for 10 minutes before using the “Copy text to clipboard” option and pasting the results back here for review.

Thank you.

I’m literally being sat on Mekk because of this.

MTR is running now, instant 3k spike. Will post once it runs long enough.

Same issue for me, on Rastakhan-M. Have WinMTR ready in case I see another big spike, though now no longer in the raid. (Cox Cable San Diego for me)

Same issue here on Opulence (sp?). I’m a cox user.

Been in the last wing of BFDA LFR on my warrior, having huge latency spikes of 3k+, I’m a Cox user as well.

All, please run a MTR and post your results. It is a COX peering issue with Blizzard at Equinix LA.

68.105.30.130 seems to be the COX handoff to Blizzard infrastructure.

My buddy and I are also lagging out on jadefire. Both of us have cox.

What are we supposed to be looking for specifically?
