Preface: I want to switch from NF to Venthyr for better DPS. I’ll be renown 80 and have already done the Venthyr campaign on an alt. I’ll likely be capped at 200,000 anima.
What to expect?
Renown reset to 40.
All by building upgrades set to 1.
Anima set to 0.
Souls set to 0.
All followers lost. (Save maybe Crowman & Meatball?
This doesn’t seem like a very clean move. I have to earn another 40 renown just to re-unlock the upgraded conduits. I’ll need to run the Maw several times over to re-acquire souls. I’ll need to run Torgast several times to get back my followers. I’ll need to run missions for several months to level followers back to 60. And the anima, losing 200,00 anima is just miserable.
It just doesn’t seem worth it for a marginal gain in DPS according to 3rd party sites.
It was a meaningful choice when I first picked NF because it was tops. Now it’s not. I hate that.
It’s like with domination sockets. Unholy was best when 9.1 launched, so I burnt up all my stygia embers upgrading unholy. Only for frost to be buffed WAY beyond unholy after I already started upgrading.
These “meaningful” choices become less meaningful with constant rebalancing AFTER we made them.
There is an boa item that you buy for anima that then you can send to alts. In this case you would buy it and then just use it once you’ve switched covenants.
Wrong it’s meant to be that way because blizzard still considers it current. And they know people will still partake in the systems regardless of how annoying/unfun they may be.
Things don’t lose their senselessness in this game until they have no more meaning/purpose.
I switched from a level 70 Ardenweald to Venthyr with no reservations (I just did it) It didn’t take long to do the entire campaign and under less than a month I’m a level 74 and will be a 76 tomorrow… Don’t find things that are wrong with the move- Just do it. I was happily surprised when I went to use my conduit tree and all the conduits were there ready for me to use.
Truth be told, I never expected them to allow us to switch from lvl 80 necrolord to lvl 80 Night Fae with all buildings fully upgraded, all followers fully leveled, etc etc the first time you swap.
I do wish they’d just connect the anima banks. No reason we should have to shuffle anima from covenant to covenant… but putting buildings that you’ve never upgraded before to lvl 1 seems logical. Once you swap back and forth again, it won’t keep resetting them.
at 9.1 all Covenant united with primus as a leader.
According to shadowland lore Maw walkers united so they can freely switch covenant without punishing by the progress all covenant base is all maw walkers base.
Im still stuck at venhyr waiting somethin good come out.
The main reason I don’t really think bout switching covenant.
Item Level is The most important.
It is the truth and I thought I’d share~ I just got it done, when your geard out better than when we first started the expac it was a pain. Since we can fly it has been a breeze and you just make it priority and get to it. If an older female player can get passed the fear of switching covenants so can anyone.
know how this system should work? I have all my buildings upgraded, I am the maw walker, I have worked with each covenant, saved there lands, droughts, and people…I switch and…boom It just…happens. everything carry’s over.
But no lets introduce another form of gating/grinding even if minor because 9.2 is NOT EVEN close to being insight…BUT WAIT its ok 6 month sub is coming soon with a new mount!
Personally I would just rather they allow us to designate 1-4 characters per account as the pinnacle versions of each covenant sanctum (provided after having fully upgraded each and done full storyline). Then for any characters going to that covenant would inherit the fully upgraded version. Then allowing people to focus on that character’s conduits, followers, cosmetics for that armor type, etc.
I can definitely agree the bit of silliness of getting something you didn’t do at least once for the account (not meaning upgraded only one sanctum). But the potential task of completionists doing it 16 times over (4x4), leaves me head scratching.
I have to agree some sort of account unlock bonus for covenants you’ve already done and upgraded on a character would be nice. Maybe just put an option on the Keepers of Renown allowing you to fully upgrade the Sanctum features/buildings so you could chose to skip redoing it on a character if you’ve already done it once on another.
…
I do also agree its weird forcing you to convert your anima back into tokens before switching to use it on a new covenant.
But that is already how it is or so as I understand it.
If you are done with a covenant and their campaign, your alts get to skip doing the quests and can jump to 40 immediately. Your main can feed any anima to them and souls are supposed to be more or less farmable at will so you can devote as much time and effort as you want to speed progressing your new alt and their sanctum.
Expecting alts to just instantly have max level sanctums though just because your main did it is not reasonable. At no point in WoW has alts ever got instant on par catchup with a main and it is very arguable alts even have never had near as nice of catchup mechanics as of now.
Honestly Blizzard deserves a lot of criticism from a lot of questionable design choices and SL as a whole is a pretty meh expansion…but they have largely done sanctums and alts right. Sanctum features are all cosmetic and optional. Alts and late comers get really fast renown catchup. Conduits and their upgrades are plentiful and with no real downside to not having the tippy top versions of them vs the common versions (slight percentage differences that end up being fractions of a percentage in total output).
The 9.1.5 changes are even more gravy and mainly benefit mains over alts anyway. It makes sense, from a narrative stance, that the covenants are no longer under the anima drought and we have proven ourselves to them and them to each other to not take issue with us swapping around more or less freely. Even pretty casual players have no real excuse to not have a full sanctum and have collected more or less everything their current covenant has to offer. I myself have 5 toons all with max renown levels, fully upgraded sanctums, and most have collected all of the various collectibles and are ready to be swapped around to start working on getting other stuff. Technically I have 6 geared out toons but the newest still has 1 more rank of something to finish their sanctum and I just can’t be bothered to put in more than the bare minimum of effort there since I already got the rewards.
With catch up, maybe a week and you can always still run your current covenant until then.
This has been changed. The quest is no longer weekly, it is repeatable and you can collect souls from Torgast, making it far faster and you will be able to farm soul ash/cinder while there collecting your covenant followers.
And. that isn’t a game balance issue.
You can transfer it to your new covenant, you aren’t losing anything…
