No offense, but the renown system was a bad idea right from the start. You are trying to fix it in 9.1.5, but, as usual, you don’t go far enough.
In 9.1.5, when you swap covenants, assuming you have one character at 80 renown, you should immediately obtain whatever renown you had with the old covenant of the character you are swapping. This idea of going back to 40, at best, when you swap and having to grind another 40 renown is another example of why people are leaving Wow and why 9.1.5 won’t save the game.
I don’t care if you get 5 renown a day for logging in, it’s just bad design if the purpose of changing it is to correct a mistake and not just requiring people to log in and do garbage content for progression (a common complaint to deaf developers). This is especially true because you still need to obtain the various soulbinds (via a quest) and covenant abilities (via content). Leaving the renown grind on top of these grinds leaves the job of saving the game (and let’s not kid ourselves here, the game is in serious trouble).
If you lore people take issue, then once you “kill” Sylvanas on even normal, how are you NOT renown 80 with every covenant?
If you use the renown boost item, you’ll obtain your full set of soulbinds straight away. As it stands you already obtain your covenant abilities straight away.
With the catch up mechanic, you can get those missing 40 levels of renowned without even trying. Hell you can just switch back to your level 80 covenant if you need the extra power while you level up the others.
Then it should not be required. It’s the continuation of a terrible idea. And, those 40 levels of renown will absolutely take much longer than you think or are saying.
Lol - one of the few times we agree needs a small celebration
This seems odd to me. One gets to change Covenants freely, but one is in another Covenant storyline with different rules of the road. 40 more levels isn’t that difficult anymore, they’ve made it easier, taken a lot of road blocks out of the way - I just don’t understand this thinking.
This might have worked better than the current system, as they may have actually put effort into balancing each and every ability. But then again, imagine being stuck on your main with the “”“”““wrong””“”" covenant if they had left balance as is. Yuck.
Good riddance systemlands, you can’t be out the door soon enough.
Oh, the number of times I heard “Wow, your damage is insane …just imagine if you were Venthyr”.
I think you should still have to complete the new covenant’s story all the way through on at least one toon. After that, renown should be farmable, from all daily quests in the Shadowland zones.
From what it sounds like the non covenant specific ones will carry over with their level but I don’t think the covenant ones that you have leveled will have those levels carry over to the counterparts for your new covenant.
