I am extremely disappointed to find today that ruffle, sinheart, jigles (not his real name there are two Gs but for some stupid reason is censored on the forums as a bad word LOOOOL
) and trootie are locked to toons of that covenant only.
I am sorry but that is just stupid, pets have never worked that way other than faction pets and thankfully there are only a small amount of faction pets.
Sure, have these only able to be unlocked by that covenant but once unlocked and purchased they need to be account wide no matter the covenant. Just like Order Hall pets worked. You needed the correct toon to unlock, but once unlocked was usable by all toons (ie Shammies only could unlock snowfang but once snowfang was earned all non shammy toons on the account could use him.)
Ruffles and tootie aren’t as big a deal as Jigles and Sinheart who are totally unique looking pets (Ruffle and Tootie have alternate skins, jigles and sinheart does not.)
Please blizzard change this, to only be able to battle with and use on 1 of the 4 covenants is a really dumb move, especially beyond SLs when our toons move on from this expac. Having them locked behind covenants does not work…

They trophy pets. They should have kept them at level 1.
Most pets are trophy pets. I am sorry but blizzard need to change this, they are worthless pets as it stands being locked behind covenants.

I agree this doesn’t feel very fun, and I’d rather see the restriction removed. This sets a foreboding precedent as well. The Class pets in Legion worked wonderfully, and was a good compromise between fun and gating IMO.
At the very least, the Renown 27 pets should have restrictions removed once we’re out of Shadowlands and in the next expansion. I mean, if they want to keep it thematic, we won’t be in Shadowlands anymore, Covenant ties shouldn’t matter as much at that point??

Well, it just makes no sense. Having to earn the pet by being of the correct covenant and grinding that applicable rep, etc., makes sense, but in four months when I’m leveling an alt with pet battles, and I can’t use any teams with other covenants’ pets…pets I did the work to earn…it makes no sense.
These aren’t mounts or mogs. They’re battle pets, and it’s totally different. The restriction is stupid.

This is ridiculous. I can’t imagine that this was intended, considering Blizzard designed pet battles to be account wide.
I have posted an in-game bug report of this and I encourage others to do this as well. I don’t know how big the pet collecting community is but I hope that we can flood them with reports of this topic.

Makes business sense for Blizzard. During the lame-duck months waiting for the next (hopefully more fun) expansion, motivates pet people to keep subscribing while they put alts into other covenants and grind them to 27 Renown.
What is upsetting to me is freaking amount of work you have to do to get those covenant pets…this exp is not Alt friendly at all trying to get all those pets from each covenant…its not amount of pet charms I need I got that covered …I came into SL with over 18,000 pet charms in my bank. Some of these pets you need to use anime to buy them which you have to build up to make your covenant better thus you still having to get more and more to buy the pets.

Total pain, especially the grateful offerings. You cant just sit idle, you have to grind the offerings out at least…
I have one of each class on Sargeras, so after leveling my pally main, I chose alts that would do well in each other covenant and finally have four toons at renown 40, one in each cov. I am so tired of the grind through, this expansion really is full of chores (and currencies).
I never would have thought so, but… it can’t be used to name a dance, or a type of fishing lure, or a work-fixture. Very correct…
Do you think the Battle-Pet parrot will have it’s name changed?
Ritz?..
The covenant pet restrictions, I’m not happy with, but knew they existed beforehand, so have no intention of investing in them. I do think your change would be for the better. but… is it correct? or an example of bobbing about?
I finally got jelly cat and sinheart on alts today… I was not aware of the summoning rules until I logged in on my main to summon Jelly cat (as this is the one I have been most excited to get). I am beyond disappointed… why is this a thing???

And you can’t even battle with them unless you are in the correct covenant either

Unless they fixed the bug, you can’t battle with them even if you are the correct covenant. The pet slot comes up empty when the battle starts.
(I haven’t checked in a few weeks, but I don’t remember seeing it come up in patch notes.)
I don’t know if it was in the patch notes or not but I do know they have fixed that, been fixed for a little while. I tested with a toon who is Kyrian but who did not unlock the pet and she was able to see and battle with “Ruffles”.

Oh my god, you actually can’t type that pet’s name on the forums. I thought you were joking, but it’s actually not allowed.

Censorship etc is getting extremely stupid … imo…
As for the covenant stuff;
Im upset over the entire thing.
NOTHING should be covenant locked, but thats MY opinion — all cause it takes SO LONG to unlock things and build buildings… its just too drip-fed to be fun when its - also - locked for alts etc.
