Hey guys! So I’m really loving my shaman atm! I’ve got it 60 and currently am Ele, so I decided to go with necrolord as my covenant. Sadly I’m not super into the theme. Primordial wave isn’t a bad ability to use though by any means, I basically am just not a fan of the zone.
I want to multi spec on my sham maybe play enhance some and maybe a little Resto on the side? But from what I saw online none of the covenants work great for all 3 specs. If I had my choice I would prob go venthyr I really, enjoyed chain harvest on the beta when I played it.
Do you guys think blizz will ever balance the covenants more? I would prob be fine staying necrolord if pw wasn’t awful for enhance. What do you guys think?
I’m a kyrian shaman, specifically because the totem is decent for M+, and while not the best for any of 3 specs, it’s better than avg for all 3 from what I read. The dmg is decent.

I am specifically Ele and Night Fae.
It has not hindered me from doing what I want.
If you are not pushing the highest end of content then it truly doesn’t matter. Play what you like and if you must roll a second shaman.

I’d say Venth is the most versatile covenant for all three specs, followed by kyrian. You’ll be constrained in PvP for the most part without Necrolord though as Elem/Resto, so if you don’t care about that then no problem. Those two specs will be uphill in PvP without the ease of PW.
In PvE, Chain Harvest is decent in all specs especially during Prideful. Elem doesn’t have a way to empower it, but the soulbinds are still pretty good (Resto can empower with Unleash Weapon). For Kyrian, Elem and Enh can proc Vesper’s healing effect with Healing Stream Totem.
The last thing I would do is count on blizz balancing things, even though they said they’d actively balance covenants going into SL. I’d assume they’d probably consider shaman covenants to be pretty well balanced out of most classes. And for the most part they are imo.
One of Blizzard’s stated goals with the 9.0.5 patch is to bring covenants and (some) legendaries more in line with each other. Whether or not they’ll accomplish that is another matter… but at least it’s an issue that’s being looked at. The current PTR build shows a first pass at tuning for covenant abilities. And there’s currently a sticky up on wowhead showing the changes if you want to check those out.
Anyway. If you love chain harvest, and you like the vampire aesthetic, go Venthyr! The soulbinds are good. You’ll be fine!
Kyrian is good for healing and elemental, and not bad for enhancement. It feels fairly impactful andnyou get a totem, so it feels shamany.
Night fae is actually the best single target shaman cov, it’s not as good for aoe as venthyr, but it’s actually feeling pretty good for pvp. It’s getting some pretty big buffs which make the issue with it for ele and resto minor to non existent, so it’s likely to be the goto for multispec shaman in 9.0.5.
Venthyr is good all around, and will generally be better than primordial wave if you know what you’re doing, it all comes down to timing and effectiveness, for both ele and resto. However, it doesn’t synergize with lava burst, and no longer works with echoing shock.
If you want to play all 3 specs i think the only covenant worth avoiding is necrolord, this is just terrible for enhancement and generally a dps loss to cast pw.
Big changes coming to Night Fae. I’d say if you’re not digging Necro then to give that a try.
