Covenant Armor Is Almost Useless

Like it says. With every chapter, I get more pieces of my covenant armor set, and with the exception of one piece so far, it’s utterly useless. By the time I get a piece, I have something better in that slot. And by the time I’m able to upgrade the armor by completing a chapter, I’ve found something even better. If I -do- find a use for any of these items, it’s bound to be temporary.

Is it just meant to be cosmetic, or a last-ditch piece of pity gear for when we haven’t gotten better through literally every other method?

What’s the point of time-gating the upgrade system, when all it does is ensure that the gear will still be just a little behind the times? You’d think that upgrading the gear would be worth it, but so far it’s just disappointing.

I’m finding them to be pretty useful on my fresh alts.

For instance, my Human DK didn’t have enough ilvl to queue for dungeons, as he was still wearing Quest Greens. Instead of traveling the world looking for WQ rewards on the slots he needed, I just did the campaign and now he can queue for dungeons!

He won’t, but he can lol

The pieces should just be cosmetic. Nobody in their right mind would use them as gear in their current state.

yeah they should either just be cosmetic if they are going to be such low item level OR if they wont raise the item level, make the set bonuses actually worthwhile, instead of 3% movement speed in shadowlands, how about 15-20% movement speed? or chance for extra anima to drop off kills or something. otherwise, as is, it might as well be a cosmetic set.

They are no good. Pray to the RnG gods that you get one piece of loot in 5 Mythic+ keys.

For those not playing all out, or with alts, it can be good stopgap gear until better gear comes along. My least played alt is wearing several pieces of Covenant gear.

Plus, it can be upgraded to a better level

I pretty much agree, I’m using a couple pieces mostly cause suitable upgrades from other sources either don’t drop or are out of reach cause I don’t raid or do M+ on this character.

I don’t see the point in hamstringing people, the highest level they can even reach with that set I think is LFR range anyway right? So why keep people stuck for so long? Any normal players will have surpassed it on the first week of M+.

I definitely wouldn’t waste anima upgrading it.

Well, actually, besides upgrading covenant gear, anima really has no relation to player power. It’s still a waste, though.

Lots of players never set foot in M+

I know, but I spend it on pets and mounts. Atticus has a lot of pets for sale.

It’s really disappointing that, with the exception of PvP trinkets, the only item sets that exist in Shadowlands are completely worthless for anyone but the most casual of casuals.

It’s good if you’re doing the campaign on Alts with low ilvl. Otherwise, yeah, purely cosmetic (which is good enough for me).

They are just there for mogs really.

Fresh alts can find them useful too, for a little bit at least.

Dear OP,

I looked at your profile. You should have kept the helmet and upgraded it. Since that helmet would have been 177 if you upgraded it. Next week you’ll be able to upgrade it to 184 as well. Which is equal to M0

If I got to 60 on a new toon today, would I be able to get the max renown this week or am I hated? If we could get to the max renown, it seems like that makes that covenant gear really solid catch up for those wanting to progress renown alongside it.

They’re cosmetic, for the most part. If you’re a player who doesn’t play much at all and I mean very, very little, eventually they’ll be upgradable and provide some alright use. Long term, when Renown isn’t capped, they’ll provide some decent use, notably for again, those players but also for alts.

I believe there are plans to bring back tier sets in the first major content patch.

you can get max renown in a week. It’s a great system for alts, especially in 3 weeks once you can get ilvl 190 from it.

Yeah, this is where I think the strength of the covenant armor lies: a built-in catch up mechanic for new alts that doesn’t require the dev team to really develop anything more for this current patch. Seems smart to me.
