(Covenant abilities not usable outside of shadowlands)
There are people who buy expansion just to level up and gain that expansions power so they can go back and play previously “hard” content. I enjoy both doing that and current endgame.
This change has ZERO pro’s and only con’s for players, no argument can be made otherwise, the only reason for this change is laziness, and while the devs are currently stressed and stretched so far as to need an extension to their deadline, THIS IS NOT THE SOLUTION.
It’s boneheaded and people who agree should speak up, loudly because this is game breaking levels of bad for a portion of the player base and has ZERO effect on the rest.

I don’t like this. I didn’t like it when they made PvP talents that only work in PvP zones.
Please stop making half my abilities turn off when I go into the “wrong” zones, Blizzard.
That is not fun.

What’s the point of playing the expansion if I can’t bring anything home with me?

Blizzard don’t care about it’s customers. Welcome to Blizzard 2020, hopefully Activision will get rid of them and replace them with competent people.
I’ve never liked zone-locked abilities. This change is ridiculous, and no, it doesn’t make sense in lore. We’re getting mounts, pets, and transmog from Shadowlands. We can take it outside of Shadowlands. There is lore in the game to leave Shadowlands.
The heart of azeroth nonsense is an excuse to not use it in Shadowlands and be “OP”, even though the neck itself was one of the worst systems they’ve ever added. If you’re an active agent of the Shadowlands, and aid in the area itself? Yeah, it makes sense to use those abilities anywhere–you’re connected to it then. Heart of Azeroth? You’re done with that, we’re not using it or gathering power for it anymore. It’s an old necklace that’s about as useless as when it was added.
But fun detected. Once again, a disappointment. I really hope this change does revert, because this is one of the selling points of the expansion. We should be able to use these new abilities anywhere we want. We could do it with Legion powers, ALL of them, with the weapon and legendaries, even in timewalking before they made the stupid decision to turn those off too and drain the weapon.
I am so. tired. of. new. things. being either restricted or removed when the expansion is over. What is even the point of any system if they’re just going to remove it and toss it in the garbage 2 years from now.

Don’t let this die out, blizzard NEEDS to revert this.
Topic number 45378 about this…
Yes, and hopefully someone else will go make 45379.
Exactly.
Time to stay at level 50 foreverrrrrrrrrr.

I like the topic. I hate having the forum spammed with them when we can all stick to one megathread and still have it get the attention it needs.
Eh, they seem to have their minds pretty well set on this course of restricted systems. Gonna take people speaking up with their $$ to get them to listen.

Makes sense they want to keep borrowed power in the expansion they are from.
And you guys thought delaying the expansion will be fruitfull…forget dat…launch the expansion now
but the covenant stuff is basically a new talent row. imagine adding a new talent row and locking that talent row to current content only. just like the conduit cooldown stuff. imagine having 1 week cd on changing essences, but then they change it to where you need a currency to spend that lets you change your essences. I can honestly not understand where these ideas come from, you would think a gaming company or developer team wants to implement fun things to the game, not try and restrict them from happening.

I am guessing they don’t want to have to balance all the interactions this would have with old content.
Actually refunded my game for this. While this isn’t a big deal to some, as someone that messes around in all areas of the world, this ACTIVELY messes with my muscle memory. Many of these abilities are meant to be constantly used in your rotation. Having my rotation jacked up when I step outside of what’s deemed ‘current content’ feels atrocious and just frustrates me.

but does that really need to be balanced? I can run ICC and one shot every mob or boss with focused azerite beam lol, idk I only started playing wow a few months ago and ive been keeping up with all these shadowlands things and It just boggles my mind how a developer team can do the things they are doing… I honestly cant think of another gaming company who has made as many changes/choices in a game that causes so much dissatisfaction to the fan base. From my experience the games I have played dev teams usually implement things into their games and fans are excited and happy with the decisions, but idk wow just seems like the first game I have played where the dev team consistently implements things that the community and fan base are openly dissatisfied with.
You want a reason for this and no one seems to have a good one.
Fun detected seems to be about it.

I mean I understand kind of why they did this and its cool in that way but they destroyed that theory when sylvanas was allowed to use SL powers in azeroth in the cinematic. But these systems on systems are too hard to change. They are almost purposely making it so hard that they just cant catch up.
It’s very warranted.
This has got to be without a shadow of a doubt one of the most ludicrously stupid changes I have ever seen in WoW’s entire history.
