NO! The covenant abilities should not just be cosmetic. Keep the covenant’s and their abilities distinct. I’m tired of choices that don’t matter. If you want an ability that min/maxes your character then choose that covenant. Sorry if it’s not you’re aesthetic choice.
I’m sick of players whining about choice and making characters feel distinct and then complaining about a 0.05% damage bonus they don’t get because it’s an ability from another covenant. Bliz is actually trying to make a choice matter for once, we need to support that.
Top end players that REALLY want that razor’s edge bonus won’t care what covenant they are. They’ll just pick the one that matches their needs. Plain and simple. The other 98% of people that are wanting homogenized abilities are complaining for no reason at all. The difference in the covenant abilities won’t mean a thing to them in the numbers game.
No it isn’t. Your opinion is wrong. The majority of players will find this frustrating and quit when their main has the “wrong” covenant and can’t get mythic + or raid invites. The average player is not going to make multiple alts of the same class either.
This is another example of Blizzard not listening or understanding is playerbase once again.
Ya, I’ve maintained that the casual inside me is giddy with excitement at the idea of a meaningful choice with neat cool abilities to work with. The prog raider inside me is groaning at trying to figure out my bis, then realizing that it isn’t great for M+ meaning my M+ team will have to deal with me being subpar…
It’s a tough one, cause I get what you’re saying, and I’ll admit that my first reaction was complete excitement to the feature. The more I think about it though, the more worried I get. I’ll especially be incredibly frustrated if I do go forward with a choice that seems like BiS (not just numbers but from how the mechanic works, that additional DK mass grip as an example), then bliz notices that most players are going that way so nerfs it to “maintain balance.” At that point… I’ll just feel cheated…
Edit: It’s sorta how azerite traits were at the start of the expac. We figured out which traits were strong, which traits to combine to optimize our characters (streaking stars for boomies at the start)… then… boom. All of them were changed… repeatedly… Making all of our work towards progression moot. The only difference this time, is it sounds like it will be a major PITA to change covenants, whereas changing our azerite was simply down to holding onto every piece of azerite gear you obtained for the first couple of months of the expac in case they changed the traits again.
Honestly, I don’t really have an issue with the system as it stands. I like the fact that this decision will impact how I play my character through out the expansion and it will not be one that I can flip flop upon constantly.
to be fair… the only reason bellular had to think about this solution is because all of you only care about numbers.
i hate the fact that im not surprised at all about that.
No, they won’t. Players who care about doing end game content will adapt to do end game content as they always have. Players that don’t care enough about end game content will do whatever it is that they have been doing for 15 years too.
You have no data to back up that statement, just like I have no data to back up the statement “the majority will quit because of this.”
All we can state are our personal opinions concerning the feature. You’re fine with it, and that’s great! Heck on many levels I’m fine with it. I explained my concerns above. Particularly when I use this system as it’s supposed to be used, enjoy the fruits of my choice, then watch that choice get undermined by blizzard in the name of “balance.” At that point… I’ll be incredibly angry at the system. As the whole point of the choice will be destroyed and instead I’ll just be along for the repeated grind ride.
Will I adapt to keep playing? Sure. But I’ll still feel the system was a detractor from my experience, rather than an addition. Just like 8.0 azerite was and legiondary acquisitions were.
What does your opinion of Bellular overall have to do with the issue at hand? The suggestion is something OP and a few others believe is a good idea. The messenger is irrelevant to the discussion. It did not seem like a “Bellular is so cool, go watch him” type of post. Just a synopsis of the ideal OP likes.
And like every other youtuber, streamer, etc, they are playing a character and are doing the version of their character the larger part of their audience want. You and I may not like it very much, but a large enough percentage do seem to like his style given how much the channel has grown and his being able to live off of it. But all of that is an aside to the actual point of the OP. I also agree the idea Bellular had is a good one in this instance.
Oddly enough, the majority of the vocal minority don’t even do the content where min-maxing would actually be required.
Take a look at many of the people who are upset about stuff like this or account-wide essences. I hate to be that guy but alts equal to mains are not required in LFR and normal raiding difficulties, min-maxing isn’t even required for heroic raiding or +10’s.
In the end it’s just something else to get mad about.
It’s more a state of mind. Some people enjoy playing the game in order to min/max. Even if they aren’t reaching the tippy top where it’s required… They still enjoy being as strong as they can be, and knowing that they’re making the right choices to be as strong as they can be. It is a part of the RPG experience. It’s why some people replayed oblivion with the express reason of finding each of the powerful items at the correct levels so that they can make the penultimate character. Sure it wasn’t in anyway required to beat the game, but that really wasn’t the point.
Even when I only heroic raided in WoD, and normal mode raided in MoP… I still wanted to be as powerful as I could be at my relative points in difficulty progression… I definitely wouldn’t have been happy choosing what was deemed the inferior choice, even though I technically didn’t require it to tackle the content I was partaking in. That’s just not the type of player I am.
Nope. Everyone I knew who played for 14 years quit because of BFA. They were a mix of heroic and mythic raiders. BFA destroyed WoW for us and Shadowlands is more of the same. WoW does a bad job at attracting new players and just keeps bleeding more.
