Cov abilities feel bad?

Is it just me or is every single rogue cov option extremely underwhelming? I’ve been Kyrian and Night Fae. ER obviously felt good before the nerfs, only because it did stupid damage. The buffed combo point was fun but sometimes you just get screwed on it and end up 3 point eviscerating. Sepsis feels okay, a DoT and one free stealth ability.

Compared to other classes I just look at them with envy though. Paladins divine tolling and one shotting everything near them, or ashen hollow and spamming executes, boomkin convoke, monk massive buff, warrior awesome spear or fun execute, mind games so fun and impactful. Just feels like rogue abilities got vastly overlooked, not much effort was put into them compared to other classes it seems.

I’m not even asking that blizzard make any of the abilities stronger per say, just more fun to use honestly. Every ability feels like a button you just press randomly in your rotation and feel little to no impact from. Shouldn’t these abilities feel impactful? They are the cornerstone of the expansion and they do feel extremely impactful for most other classes in my experience with alts.

Just a little sad that I’m currently picking my covenant for the secondary ability/soulbinds and not the primary class ability.

Honestly, I’m holding out hope that we get to choose a couple Torghast abilities as talents as the expansion evolves. Or perhaps a new legendary that has some Torghast anima powers. Because, ER being reset on use would make that ability actually fun.

I know I’m dreaming. Honestly, I went from Necro and Kyrian on my outlaw, and I like ER quite a bit. But I agree it is underwhelming. i’m just happy it has a nice animation, though simple, and it flows well with my abilities.

That is an interesting thought.

I doubt it will ever happen but it would make ER more engaging.

I like how most of our specs feel but our Covenants just do pathetic damage compared to Beta and other classes.

It’s real fun seeing pulls where their Covenant is 10% or more of their total damage while mine sits at 2-3% and the difference is staggering if you look at AoE.

At least we have good Legendaries to play with for now, if they let us use two next patch that would be pretty sick.

Pretty wild huntards hit their NF ability and, depending on the size of the pack shoot up to 20k+ while I hit flag and do MAYBE 300damage on a crit lol.

I get they can be pulled out of it, but that’s nothing new, just look at poison bomb (especially when it was basically our top damage in legion). At least they can control it!

We just need so much help AoE wise, nothing lives long enough to REALLY start pumping, and even when it does that damage is just ok while other classes easily zoom past it with zero effort. My DK can hit Unholy Blight + Dark Transformation and zoom past my rogue in damage, without even using epidemic or Abomination Limb. What’s sad is that using ST talents i’m still legions better in aoe then my rogue is using AoE talents for AoE which comes with the negative of hurting my ST damage further for mediocre/sub par aoe.

Our covenant abilities flat out suck. Honestly it’s one of the few things that I’m pretty down on this xpac, you might as well just rename sepsis “rupture 2” because that’s what it feels like to hit the button. It’s like they knew it was garbage and tried to spice it up with the free stealth move but honestly who cares.

Like why doesn’t sepsis jump between all nearby targets, it’s not like it does so much damage it would move rogues to the top. Hell I would settle for a button that randomly changes my character model - at least I would be remotely interested in pressing it.

Detection > all rogue covenant abilities. Sad but true.

Yea our covenant abilities are pathetic. The fact that they nerfed ER so hard when it was our only useful cov ability was just stupid. They need to make it the hit the same as a shadowstrike and increase the energy cost to 40 or something. It makes no sense that an ability on a 45 second cool down is only worth using outside of our burst window when we’re just trying to generate cps before our next dance.

This of course assumes you’re talking about pvp.

ER was stupid OP as was the soulbind prenerf because it allowed a stupid one button macro, that was dropping people in two seconds. There was no “skillful use” of it to pull it off. You just spammed the macro. You can find videos on youtube of it back in December. Kyrian was also required, there was no covenant choice. It wasnt going to last any longer than it did.

Sepsis is good with Niya due to the buff but basically worthless otherwise.

You still use ER during your burst…

I have a video of bursting for 92k pre nerf.

When? If you hit ER during the 4 second mater assassin window it’s a wasted global. Why would you waste a global when you could shadowstrike instead?

Is the mastery buff actually worth sacrificing a shadowstrike for during master assassin?

Yea it was stupid op and absolutely needed a nerf but I think most people agree they overdid it because it’s terrible now.

Yes. You want the mastery buff because it makes your finishers hit harder.

Yea I know, but I’m curious if it’s actually enough extra damage to justify the loss in damage from the SS. I guess it depends on rotation but I didn’t consider that it actually would be. Wish there were reliable PvP dummies where we could actually test this, but the one in org doesn’t seem to work properly.

Either way thanks for mentioning it. If it’s actually worth using that would be nice.

btw based on some testing I did it is not worth using ER in the opener. It increases an average eviscerate (that crits) by about ~1k, which definitely doesn’t make up for the ~2k you lose by using reprimand over SS. You’d have to have multiple 5pt crit eviscerates during the buff to makeup for that and unless you aren’t planning to stunlock that isn’t happening.

I agree out conv abilities are not fun to use at all or feel impactful, just anther filler spell on top of SND. Blizzard please buff rogues and give us a button thats fun to press

I am okay with cov abilities being weaksauce if the class becomes stronger over time as the expansion progresses. But I will say that flagellation needs to be more user interactive to utilize when needed.

Or refashioned into a more Cov appropriate ability.
Like WHY wasn’t Flagellation given a Leech effect? We’re part of the Vampire Cov and we don’t get a bloodsucking ability?

Yeah anything like this would make it better than right now.
