Turns out you can type in /countdown 30 to start a non-removable, anonymous 30 second timer and you can keep spamming it.
And there’s no addon or way to find out who’s doing it.

Thank you, you have cursed this game.
Let’s extract the salt from the players’ tears and put it in my bathtub, so I can finally float in the bathtub!
That’s hilarious.
This is the only way it’ll get fixed. Make it hyper annoying for everyone so someone makes an addon or blizz takes away player /countdowns
I can think of an addon that might actually solve the problem, but it removes your ability to see countdowns. There’s an addon called MoveAnything, it lets you hide pretty much any UI element. It’s pretty good, I wouldn’t be surprised if it let people hide countdowns as well.
I was in an LFR where someone did a /countdown 30 timer every 30 seconds for 5 attempts at 3 bosses. Well over an hour, must have been close to 200 times. At least some of those wipes were people malding in chat at the timer spam instead of doing the encounter.
I wonder what the devs would do with all that free time if they didn’t have to keep patching stuff like this because the community is so deadset on finding new ways to be insufferable gits.
AFAIK you have to have raid lead/assist access to do this. So it’s pretty obvious who’s doing it… there aren’t that many options.
So in theory you could put any number there correct?
Not everyone in a group/raid can start a count down, so it’s not that difficult to determine who is doing it.
Confused.
I thought this command was older, but apparently it was added in Shadowlands. It also has to be done by lead/assist. I don’t know that LFR groups normally organize to the degree that they start giving out assist, so you could have likely singled out the ‘raid lead’.
Can anyone do /readycheck? I feel that would get abused more.
I didn’t have assist and I could do it just fine. If you do /countdown 0 it cancels the running countdown
Wtf I hate the passage of time now.
How dare people soft force other people in LFR to be prepared within a certain bracket of time instead of just doing 20 /readychecks to ensure noboday is afk before a boss pull. Truly truly truly outrageous
I think allowing anyone in the raid to do /countdown xx is fine. But not printing out who started or cancelled the countdown means that any rando can put /countdown 30 into a keybound macro and have the numbers and audio spammed for the duration.
