(Please don’t throw out the baby with the bath water should you dislike my suggestions or anyone else’s. I mean to say that it is okay to agree that the current system of looting and skinning needs to be updated to account for discrepancies. It is also okay to disagree with my ideas. You need not disagree with my ideas and therefore throw out the thought that this system needs change.)
Hi guys!
This topic concerns skinning and an issue I think everyone who’s skinned before can relate to. I mean someone else having to loot the dead so those of us who do skin can put our skills to work. For example, if I am in a party and we slay a skinnable animal, I’m very frequently unable to skin said deceased animal unless my teammate loots the animal too. Not a huge deal, although, this can be quite annoying, to say the least. In a party, I can typically have my team loot for me so that I can skin.
Situations are not always ideal, however, and oftentimes I am unable to have other players I do not know to cooperate with looting the dead we both helped to kill or that they killed without me. Even if I did not lay a hand on the dead animal, and even if the player who killed it couldn’t care less about it anyway, I cannot skin said dead animal either only because they have not been looted.
Obviously, we cannot have a free-for-all surrounding the skin of dead beasts, however. And so, what I suggest is what follows:
-
Relating to parties, change the design of looting skinnable animals. Have it changed so that such NPC’s loot is available to only one player in that party and at random. At random so that not just one or two party member receives essentially all of the loot (loot from such creatures is nominal).
. -
Outside of parties and in open world, I suggest making it so that whichever player dealt the most damage in X amount of time receives the animal’s drop and skin. Furthermore, if whomever receives that loot does not pick it up, allow for a certain duration to eventually allow for the dead animal to be skinned by other players. This would allow ample time for the creature’s killer to both loot and skin it. Or if they choose to instead let both the loot and skin to disappear (as it would), allot skinners a small window of time to skin that animal before that loot and skin vanish.

This has been something bugging me for a long time and after some thought figured I’d create a topic to see what everyone else thinks. That’s all I got. I don’t see how such a simple system could be exploited. But, I may be missing something.
