Could you do old 40mans in TBC?

I have had this question for years, as I never played TBC. Could a group of level 70s clear old 40 man vanilla raids like MC, BWL, AQ or Naxx? Or was that context closed off with the launch of Burning Crusade?

Yeap. I cleared MC,BWl,AQ (upto twin emps) and Naxx during TBC.

yea, a lot of stuff in AQ20 can be 2 manned in tbc

How big of a group did you need to clear the content?

Depending on mechanics, like 5 people

Yes, but I believe you still had to be attuned for all the old raids which was still pretty time consuming

Nothing was closed off until WotLK, when they closed Naxxramas to move it to Northrend and make it the easiest raid ever.

Further things were closed off in Cataclysm as they repurposed them.

What was said is everyone holds wrath as the best time in wow despite the fact that the entire first raid tier was a cake walk, it had the worst raid ever made (crusade) and even most of icc was a cakewalk.

It also began homogenization and made dungeons and rep grinding a joke.

What it did best was story telling.

Not sure this is 100% true. I remember a dungeon group convinced they could 5-man MC and getting owned by the first pull of fire giants. Fresh 70s but still…

Never tried it myself with gear to be fair though.

The trash, at the least, should DEFINITELY be capable of being 5 manned - that’s pathetic.

Depends on whether or not they had the AoE and the know-how to deal with the multiplying fire elementals.

Right, but we’re discussing how many are NEEDED, and you should be able to 5 man MC at 70+

The power jump from 60 to 70 wasn’t that large when compared to other Xpac power jumps. So you still needed a fair number of people to do the content. I remember a video of a Paladin soloing Lucifron in tbc and that was a huge deal. It look him like half an hour though. Warriors could also solo Garr once they had 104% avoidance.

I remember a guild on my server in tbc that hosted a naxx raid and they treated it as if it was a level 70 raid. I did not join that raid, but I heard they never finished it.

To answer your question, probably 5 to 10 players depending on the gear and difficulty of the raid they are doing, with at least 25 for naxx40

You could solo trash in MC at 70 (I know this because I did this). Certain classes could even take on a few bosses solo. BWL required a small group.

The only real reason to do any of these at 70 would be for cash or BOE’s. The T1 bracers/belts dropped off trash in MC and would sell somewhat decent.

I agreed with the middle part of that post!

“Tirion Fordring is invincible; the defeat of the Lich King involves you staying alive long enough for him to demonstrate it to you” is not what I call good storytelling.

Yeah, there were still vanilla items that were BiS until T5 or above. Items like the rejuvenating gem and nef’s tear were still really good at 70 and if I remember right Thunderfury was still such a good tank weapon that they ended up nerfing it to deal with the itemization.

That’s something that was never saw again as each xpac cranked up the gear power so much higher.

The main tank of Nihilum (the guild that did a whole bunch of world firsts) used Thunderfury to tank Illidan.

It depended purely on how geared adn knowledgeable you were.

Depends honestly. Naxx was actually still difficult on some level even at 70 early on. For early raids you didn’t need many.

Yeah I think the love was that it wasnt aliens and whatnot. WoW classic was tribal, medieval, and dragonny. WOTLK was the cold north with a zombie horde. And TBC i still dont understand.
