Or only mages? Or does wizard extend to all magic users? Help me out
I would call a warlock a warlock and a mage a mage, though I guess I would associate the word “wizard” more with mage than I would warlock.
In WoW, they generally seem distinct. A wizard would generally be seen as a flavor of mage whereas a warlock would not.
I call warlocks Diet Demon Hunters.
The tears are their version of Conjure Water, and just as refreshing.
I would say a warlock is not a wizard…
Mage isn’t really a wizard either… but they come closest to being a wizard, I think.
Most warlocks would have mage as a front considering being a warlock isnt popular.
Plus most warlocks were mages first
Warlocks are Mages who got put into Slytherin.
A warlock is a dark wizard. Think Saruman vs Gandalf. Both cast spells but only the warlock casts curses and delves into profoundly dark magic that is antithetical to life itself. Meanwhile Jaina just freezes a patch in the ocean. Ner’zhul blew up a planet. They’re all wizards.
In WarCraft, Wizard seems more interchangeable with Mages. Specifically Kirin Tor members. Khadgar, Kel’Thuzad, Antonidas are all referred to as wizards at some point. I believe the Council of Six are referred to wizards as well.
Sorcerer/Sorceress seems interchangeable with both Mages and Warlocks. The title seems a little more generic as its used for Jaina, Illidan and Gul’dan
“Warlock” means “oath breaker” in Old English, approprietely used to refer to male Witches. a mage on the other hand is a general arcane practitioner. are all mages warlocks? No. Are all Warlocks mages? Yes. A mage is a general practitioner of Magic, a Warlock is a user specifically typically of the black arts like poisons and necromancy like their female counterparts the witch, usually in demonic service to a dark entity or demon. Mage just means someone who practices magic, so anybody can be called a “mage”, but being called a Warlock carries much more “dire” connotations and denotations and is therefore not something most magic practitioners and mages would want to be called.
To me a Wizard is a cross between a Mage and a Warlock. They do “regular” magic but also can conjure some nasty things and have questionable spells in regard to morality.
Warlocks as I understand them are wizards in the WoW universe. They take an obscene amount of demonology knowledge to obtain their powers and need to continue to research to become more powerful. Studying to get powers is a traditionally wizard thing
Mages are far more wizard-y though. There can’t be as many arguments as there might be for the above statement; Wizards study, they get magic - Mages study they get magic. Easy.
Also the term “Wizard” just means a male practitioner of magic, used mainly to denote the gender of the mage nothing else.
wow nomenclature, all casters are referred to as wizards. you most commonly see it in pvp. Wizard cleave etc.
