This is the strangest change ever. Mage is like 180 degrees away from Priest on a WoW class circle. Like, mages want to kill things, and Priests want to heal things. The other aspects should be near the core. This one isnt.
That said, I may consider changing my typical Classic Frost Mage powers into healing. But everyone whines at the healer. Never mind. I’ll just keep frying/frosting things.
Time-based arcane mage healing theme makes perfect sense I think.
I don’t think they will be the strongest healer in group PvP, especially not at 25. Their main heal is a arcane school channel, their main attack for arcane is also a channel. Poly and blink are also arcane school… They will be easy to shut down. Horde especially will easily shut arcane mages down as shaman have a low CD interrupt already at that level.
Priests will probably be the top healer at 25 since they have a magic dispel and their PW:S will help against the high burst that will be happening. If it’s very crowded raids vs raids type PvP, resto druids with lifebloom will probably put up big numbers, though they can’t save people from burst very well.
Wait, I just saw what the OP did there. “Chill out” on mages healing. So frost mages are out, I like your idea that it should be arcane, and maybe you can heal by fire as well (like the old days).
I feel like SoD is supposed to do two things, give meme specs a shot in the spotlight (shaman tanks, boomkins, melee hunters, ect), and throw ideas at the wall to see what sticks, (rogue tanks, leveling raids, ect). Having more healers to pick from wouldnt be the worst thing in the world, and im more excited for outlandish ideas like mage healers that are original rather than just copy pasting abilities from future expansions to the class.
Its easy to give mages ice lance so they have another button to press while raiding, it takes real effort to build an entire new playstyle from the ground up without having anything to base it on.
I’m not a big lore nerd so I asked an AI and it told me:
Looking solely at the lore and setting of Warcraft, without taking into account game mechanics and abilities:
Arcane magic is described as being able to alter time, space, and reality itself. It can reshape and bend the fundamental forces of the universe.
With this extremely potent magic, it stands to reason that experienced and skilled arcane practitioners would be able to manipulate arcane energies for healing purposes.
There are examples in the lore of powerful mages using arcane magic to heal and resuscitate others. For instance, the mage Rhonin was able to use arcane magic to revive the dragon-mage Vereesa Windrunner after she was killed in combat.
The inherent energies of arcane magic may not lend themselves easily to healing in the way nature or holy light magic does. But there seem to be few limits on what can be achieved through creative and adept use of arcane power.
So in summary, based on lore examples, arcane magic should be able to heal in the hands of knowledgeable arcane spellcasters. The methods may be more roundabout compared to traditional healing spells, but the end result of restoring life and mending wounds should be possible through arcane means.

Thoughtful post, grabbing popcorn for the typical 5 people that will respond with hate on everything about SoD, yet “claim” they won’t be playing it…
That’s literally a personal skill issue. Many people have no issue mastering multiple classes while they get changed and balanced in retail every patch.
If you can’t, that’s literally just on you. It’s crazy how your biggest issue about sod is effectively your inability to play the game if it changes slightly lol
