Could an Undead realistically choose Saurfang?

I’m trying to think of a story-based reason for my undead rogue to side with Saurfang, but would that actually happen? Are there any instances of undead characters questioning or getting fed up with Sylvanas?

Thank you.

They could, if they have free will and feel they owe more to the Horde as a whole than to Sylvanas, or if they disagree with the notion of raising more undead, given that pretty much all of them lament their cursed existence.

He could easily choose Saurfang if he wants to help betray the Horde, I don’t see the issue.

i have friends who main’s forsakens and half of them are siding with saurfang, they can’t stand sylvanas anymore.
the other half would probably stab saurfang and present his heart to the ghouls.

oh but you mean undead in lore? well, zelling is one of them who would not follow sylvanas.

Plenty of reasons. Most of which would be individualized to the specific character. Far as examples, could look generally at undead more focused on doing something else rather than serving Sylvanas (if not necessarily Forsaken). Faol, Meryl, Galen, Godfrey, Leonid.

It’ll just be a personalized reason for the choice.

Why would you choose Saurfang? He turned his back on the Horde. He’s really just mad he isn’t warchief and didn’t get the credit of burning the tree… even though he oversaw the entire thing.

Meryl Felstorm, Alonsus Faol. There have been more than a few undead who have chosen their own moral compass.
Personally, I find it absurd for all undead to lack a sense of honor and blindly act as the banshee queen’s minions. A hero who has been fighting for the horde as a whole would find issues stabbing Saurfang in the back.

I think I’d honestly rather have the conventional portrayal of Male Human Paladins than this.

But as for OP’s question, look up Kegan Darkmar. A Forsaken who recognized the terrible portent of an artifact - implied to be of Old God origin - and worked to get it in the hands of the Alliance mages in Alterac, since he didn’t trust the Forsaken with it. Not only that, but he also had four other Forsaken with him.

Compound that with the Desolate Council, Meryl and Alonsus like Sairuna pointed out, and people with rising doubts like Zelling and Stone, and sure. There’s plenty of story room for an undead to side against Sylvanas.

Saurfang didn’t oversee the burning at all. He tried to stop the catapults but failed. He went into that mission believing they were going to occupy Darnassus and nothing more. And I doubt he wants to be Warchief when he literally just wants to die honorably and see his son again.

The two new Kul Tiran Forsaken from the War Campaign are turning on her over Derek, there was also an RAS apothecary in Cata that thought she was going too far and left to join the Crusade instead.

Whatever reason you could come up with would work for your character because your character is the PC and can make that kind of choice for whatever reason you want them to because the PC is always a special case. There could be only a single Forsaken that sides with Saurfang and that would always be the Forsaken PC because that’s just how special the PC is.

Maybe they value their life more than loyalty to Sylvanas and think she’s going to get them all killed so they side with Saurfang. Maybe they respect him more than they do her. Maybe they think there will be more money in it for them if they side with a potential rebellion. Maybe they think Zappy boi is cute and are following Saurfang to make sure he isn’t killed. Anything goes for the PC!

Oh easily. In before the storm, the dark lady takes the new governing council to meet their Alliance families and there she killed her own people. Some of the council made it back and many dark rangers saw the slaughter. To think none of those witnesses would speak of it and let word out is a discredit to the notion of forsaken free will. Just have your character be close to these people and over hear their side of the story.

Sylvanas has gotten betrayed a few times in the past, as a matter of fact the Forsaken DK raids the Undercity and kill the guards and free Koltira.

Is it really betrayal if the Ebon Blade doesn’t serve Sylvanas in the first place?

I under the impression that the death knight PC are allies of the factions.

lowkey… i’m just an old paladin who wants a scourge xpac
but in all seriousness. It’s the truth. Sylvanas is a good lead

Oh, I missed this bit. Yes, in this case, it’s betrayal.

Carry on.

I mean if your forsaken really disliked what sylvanas did to undercity, their home, i could see it as a reason to go saurfang.

WHY IS DEREK MORE IMPORTANT THEN A METROPOLITAN AREA EXPLODING!

Some people might view actions questionable touching on the cornerstone of their society of greater importance than a location.

To be fair, allies and subjects are substantially different concepts.

The better question is why Derek is more important then Stone, who was the first kul tiran raised against her own people.

As far as the OP, the vast majority of undead who side against Sylvanas fundamentally disagree with the Forsaken mindset. There are, to my knowledge, zero cases of military Forsaken turning against Sylvanas (unless we count the Wrathgate revolt, then it’s because demons).

That could change through Derek’s storyline, but largely there aren’t major in-lore reasons to see a Forsaken revolt against Sylvanas as of yet.
