Could 5 Player Raids actually work?

Just saw a commenter on a YouTube video say that what WoW needs to go ahead and make is 5 Player Raids.BI wanted to have a serious discussion about the idea and really try and understand how the Community really feels about the idea, hear both the pros and cons to the idea. Now, I don’t know how that would actually work; a normal sized Raid with a 5 Player difficulty setting? So that’s thought one; scaled down from 10 Player to 5. Raids specifically designed with 5 Players in mind, both for the size, and difficulty of a 5 Player team?

If think that it would force Blizzard to stop making Bosses with so many mechanics. Would you miss Tank swapping, or having Two Tanks one for the Boss and one to pick up the ads? So less mechanics; good or bad? I’d also think that would also mean less add fights, which means a lot less organized madness.

I don’t do M+, so you all really need to let me know if what you’re doing is already like a 5 Player Raid (with that darn timer). I think Blizzard could still do Bosses with a few Mechanics, but not nearly as many that have to be done now. No more “DPS and 1 Healer go down the hole and kill the thing”. Is that a good thing?

Anyway, I hope we can have a great civil discourse on this topic, and really see how the idea stands up in practical terms.

Mega dungeons and Mythic plus do fill this role.

So… a long dungeon?

That’s a lot of words.

Dungeons exist, and have been slowed down to be sort of like mini raids.

These are just semantics. WoW has “5 player raids.” Theyre called dungeons.

We have dungeons, we have mega dungeons, we don’t need 5 player raids

a 5 player raid is a really dumb idea. whatever video you watched wasted your time.

this.

and the funniest part about all of this is we’re getting less dungeons in shadowlands, and being fed old ones to compensate, and very few people are mad about that.

I think 5 is probably too few people. There are plenty of games that make 8-14 work though.

I would like to see 10 man mythic at some point but I don’t think it is likely to be a thing anytime soon.

Yeah… I’m not particularly happy with the dungeon situation in DF. Having old dungeons be relavent is fine but not at the expense of new content.

The last thing I want to do at the start of an expansion is old content.

I don’t think it’s a wretched idea, though I’d hesitate to call it a raid. It could be distinguished from dungeons in having little or no trash and far more extensive boss mechanics.

In theory Torghast could’ve lent itself to content like this, but well, that just didn’t quite happen. They should keep iterating on Torghast… reducing the floors and adding Tower Knowledge were actually decent changes. But the end bosses could do with like 3x as many mechanics, and get rid of the Mawrats and most of the trash.

5 player raid is a dungeon lmao

raids in fantasy are raids. a bunch of savages pillaging villages or castles and looting the goods

2 healer 1 dps 2 tank new meta.

I (might) approve.

Nah, need more healers. I’m thinking 3 heals, 1 tank, 1 dps.

More varied optimal baseline comps would be interesting.

we already have them. It’s called mega dungeon and m+

From what I understand, there will be 8 new dungeons at the beginning (presumably accessible as normal and heroic), but only 4 will be used in the first season of M+. Mixing older dungeons into the M+ pool isn’t at the expense of new content, it’s trying to help you not be bored of the new content as quickly. I’d rather have the new system than the same dungeons and same loot for 2 years. Plus, with the rotation, Blizz might be less hesitant about adding more dungeons later in the xpac since they wouldn’t be as much of the odd ones out.

Aren’t dungeons like BRD essentially that? I’d be up for a few more mega dungeons.

5 player Raids = Mythic 35 without the hassle of the timer

Oh I know it. The thing that bugs me, honestly, is that they’re rotating old dungeons in starting with the very first season. If they waited until season 2 I don’t think it would bother me as much.

I want to do the new stuff on launch.
